After Jupiter’s Legacy, The Umbrella Academy, and Sweet Truth, it seems that Netflix is on the prowl for more comic book options that could result in hit shows. Among these is a title from a DC creator that a section of the fans finds controversial.
Geoff Johns‘ Geiger, with a host of other comic properties, has been optioned for Netflix. This, however, does not guarantee that the streaming giant is actively developing an adaptation for the Ghost Machine property. It just means that it has struck a deal with the rights holder for the possibility of acquiring the rights to the property to develop a project.
Geiger is the story of a family man in a post-nuclear war Earth of 2050. Transformed into an irradiated, glowing protector, the story follows him as he faces off against radioactive mutants and warlords. A show based on the property had been in the works with Paramount, but the idea never developed into a full IP.
Netflix is exploring indie graphic novels for potential movies and series
Apart from Geiger, there seemed to be other indie graphic novels that Netflix might have optioned. One such title is IDW Publishing‘s Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees. A premise that can be best described as Animal Crossing meets Dexter, the story takes the expectations that an audience might have with its setting, and butchers them in the forest.
Another title that Netflix might be eyeing for an adaptation is Radio Spaceman by Hellboy’s creator, Mike Mignola. While it is not known how Netflix might be looking to adapt the story, giving it anything but an animated treatment is likely going to result in a subpar product.
Also on Netflix’s shopping list is The Infinite Horizon. With the success of Christopher Nolan‘s Odyssey, more studios are bound to want to put their own spin on the story. The Infinite Horizon by Gerry Duggan and Phil Noto might give it the perfect opportunity. The story follows an American soldier stuck in the Middle East after a war in the near future. In a sci-fi retelling of the Odyssey, the soldier must find his way home while facing the various horrors that have been littered along the way.
