Naruto’s 10 Strongest Sealing Jutsus of All Time, Ranked
Spread the love

In Naruto, the most dangerous techniques aren’t always the ones that level mountains or create massive explosions. Fūinjutsu (Sealing Jutsu) is one of the oldest and most sophisticated branches of ninjutsu, built around sealing chakra, spirits, living beings, objects, or even entire dimensions through intricate formulas and precise chakra control. The Uzumaki Clan became legendary for mastering this art, creating seals powerful enough to contain tailed beasts and preserve humanity’s strongest weapons.

Despite rarely receiving the same spotlight as ninjutsu or dōjutsu, these techniques have repeatedly altered the course of shinobi history and decided battles that brute strength alone could never win. This ranking evaluates the strongest sealing jutsu in the franchise based on canon feats, versatility, impact on the story, chakra requirements, and overall power to determine which technique truly stands at the pinnacle of fūinjutsu.

The Four Symbols Seal is a foundational Uzumaki sealing formula designed to contain chakra within a host. It formed half of Naruto’s Eight Trigrams Sealing Style and serves as one of the building blocks for more advanced fūinjutsu. While effective on its own, it reaches its true potential only when paired with a second Four Symbols Seal to create the Eight Trigrams configuration. Its historical importance is undeniable, but its standalone capabilities are surpassed by every technique ranked above it. Hence, it takes last place on this list.

9. Torii Seal (Myōjinmon / Gate of the Great God)

The Torii Seal summons gigantic shrine gates that pin down enormous targets through overwhelming suppressive force. Hashirama Senju famously restrained the Ten-Tails with multiple gates during the Fourth Great Ninja War, while later users employed similar gates against powerful beasts. Although often viewed as a restraining technique, its sealing properties effectively immobilize overwhelming chakra entities. It ranks ninth because it emphasizes physical suppression over lasting or versatile chakra sealing.

8. Evil Sealing Method (Fūja Hōin)

Kakashi employed the Evil Sealing Method to suppress Sasuke’s Cursed Seal of Heaven after Orochimaru branded him during the Chūnin Exams. The technique contains malicious chakra rather than permanently removing it, forcing the target to maintain strong willpower to keep the seal effective. It proved invaluable in delaying Orochimaru’s influence for much of Part I. Although highly practical against cursed chakra, its temporary nature prevents it from ranking above more comprehensive sealing techniques, earning the eight spot.

7. Five Pronged Seal (Gogyō Fūin)

Also known as the Five Elements Seal, Orochimaru developed this advanced seal to disrupt another person’s chakra network by placing an opposing five-element formula over an existing seal. During the Chūnin Exams, he applied it to Naruto, severely interfering with Kurama’s chakra and leaving Naruto unable to properly mold chakra until Jiraiya removed it. Rather than imprisoning enemies, it weaponizes chakra disruption with remarkable effectiveness. Its offensive utility surpasses simpler suppression techniques but lacks the versatility of higher-ranked fūinjutsu.

6. Contract Seal (Keiyaku Fūin)

Rather than sealing a body or soul, the Contract Seal targets summoning and control contracts. Minato used it during the Nine-Tails’ Attack to instantly sever Obito’s control over Kurama, completely changing the battle. The technique bypasses brute force by attacking the underlying chakra contract itself. It ranks above the Five Elements Seal because it strips an opponent of external combat assets instantly, neutralizing a massive threat by breaking the fundamental bond between summoner and beast. Although highly specialized, its ability to neutralize one of the series’ greatest threats with a single touch earns it a higher ranking than seals focused mainly on disrupting chakra flow.

5. Adamantine Sealing Chains (Kongō Fūsa)

This Uzumaki clan secret technique manifests chakra chains capable of physically restraining and sealing immense chakra sources. Kushina used them to immobilize the Nine-Tails immediately after childbirth despite her weakened condition, while Karin later unleashed them to rip through and restrain Guruguru’s giant wooden statue (the multi-armed Buddha statue used by Spiral Zetsu) during the Fourth Great Ninja War. The chains naturally suppress tailed beast chakra and can reinforce existing seals, though they generally require follow-up methods for permanent imprisonment. Although Naruto inherited Uzumaki blood, he never awakened this rare clan ability, which appears to manifest only in select clan members.

4. Eight Trigrams Sealing Style (Hakke no Fūin Shiki)

Created from two Four Symbols Seals layered together, this masterpiece of Uzumaki fūinjutsu was used by Minato to seal Kurama inside newborn Naruto. It continuously regulated the fox’s chakra while allowing Naruto gradual access throughout the series. Jiraiya later modified it without breaking the seal itself, demonstrating its sophisticated design. Its longevity, adaptability, and ability to contain the strongest tailed beast place it above standard sealing techniques, though it lacks the absolute finality of the top three.

3. Totsuka Blade (Totsuka no Tsurugi / Sakegari no Tachi)

Itachi’s Susanoo was the Totsuka Blade that sealed anyone it pierced into a spiritual gourd, trapping them in an eternal genjutsu-like dream. It famously erased Orochimaru from Sasuke’s body during their battle and later sealed a reincarnated Nagato during the Fourth Great Ninja War. Unlike conventional weapons, its attacks permanently remove enemies from battle regardless of regeneration. It ranks above the Eight Trigrams because it requires no complex ritual setups or hand signs, sealing powerful, immortal enemies instantly upon physical contact. Although incredibly powerful, its effectiveness depends on landing a strike, placing it below the broader, battlefield-defining capabilities of the two techniques above.

2. Dead Demon Consuming Seal (Shiki Fūjin)

The Dead Demon Consuming Seal summons the Shinigami, sacrificing the caster’s life to seal a target’s soul within the god of death forever. Minato used it to split Kurama’s chakra during the Nine-Tails’ Attack, while Hiruzen used it against Orochimaru, sealing away his arms and crippling his jutsu. Its unavoidable soul-sealing properties make it deadlier than nearly every other fūinjutsu. It ranks below Six Paths — Chibaku Tensei only because of its fatal cost and inability to match Kaguya’s divine-level sealing feat. Also, it outranks the entries below because it bypasses physical durability entirely to target the soul directly, offering an absolute, inescapable victory against any mortal foe.

1. Six Paths — Chibaku Tensei (Rikudō: Chibaku Tensei)

Granted by Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki, this ultimate sealing technique requires the Sun and Moon Seals wielded together. Naruto and Sasuke activated it by simultaneously touching Kaguya, creating a colossal satellite that permanently imprisoned her. Unlike ordinary Chibaku Tensei, this version sealed the strongest being in the series rather than merely restraining her. It required Six Paths chakra but possessed unmatched sealing authority. It ranks at number one because it is the only technique capable of sealing an immortal, god-like progenitor of chakra. No other canon fūinjutsu has successfully sealed a god-tier opponent as completely, making it the undisputed strongest.

Here is a ranked table:
