My Adventures With Superman Season 3, Episode 3 saw a dystopian future close out its run time. This future saw the likes of Steel, Jimmy Olsen, and Lex Luthor working together with a young man wearing the crest of the House of El, with a suit that looks pretty similar to that of Hank Henshaw.
This character ends up being sent back in time and makes his appearance in the first minutes of Season 3, Episode 4, Guess Who’s Slammin’ to Dinner?
This is Jon Kent, and he is the son of Clark and Lois. Given the angst that the characters were going through, especially Lois, about her future with Clark Kent, the arrival of Jon changes things and also plants the seed for certain conflicts that might bear fruit later.

Jon Kent’s Arrival Somehow Expedited Earth’s Doom

In the future, Jon Kent was already a young adult, and later in the episode, it is revealed that Clark and Lois were both alive for at least a few months after the birth of Jon. However, Hank Henshaw, who is likely the reason for the apocalypse in the future, expedites the Apocalypse by rebelling against Lex Luthor. Luthor, despite his intelligence, falls for Henshaw’s attempts at making nice, thinking that Cyborg Superman is genuinely apologetic of his behavior in the previous episode.
However, Lois is not even pregnant in the current timeline (that we know of), and the end of the world has already started.
Further, Jon Kent’s arrival in the past sees him working well with Lois, Superman, and Jimmy Olsen, but not so much with Kara. Given that Jimmy has inadvertently caused Kara to try to date other men, their relationship is also currently in an interesting place. Kara is visibly peeved that Jon Kent is a lot chummier with Jimmy Olsen than with her.
Jon Kent also seems to be walking into Superman’s footsteps by default, being able to negotiate peace with a subterranean race of dinosaurs, who have worked with humanity since, even in the face of extinction. He is also a pickpocket like Lois Lane, something that Clark acknowledges as a telltale sign that he is their son from the future.
Can Superboy’s Presence Turn The Tide In Favor of Superman?

In Superboy’s time, as Jon reveals, Superman and Lois are dead. There is no indication of where Kara is either, but it can be assumed that she is dead as well. There is no sign of a Green Lantern either, especially given that Jessica Cruz has already been teased in the story and is slated to make an appearance later in the season.
It is unknown what kills Superman, but Jon Kent’s presence might allow the Man of Steel to survive whatever took him out in the main timeline. Of course, the fact that Jon Kent has not yet been born in the timeline could keep Superman and Lois’ fate safe, but that does not bode well for the other characters in the show.
It is possible that Jon Kent is able to bring other allies over to Superman’s side, but given that it has been shown that time is a closed loop and Jon’s actions could actually lead to the future that he is trying to avoid, the key to defeating Hank could be to send Jon back to the future and face him on Superman’s own terms.
