Matt Reeves has given updates on The Batman 2 and The Penguin Season 2.

Reeves directed 2022’s The Batman starring Robert Pattinson. A sequel is in the works; however, the movie’s release date was recently pushed back from October 2026 to October 2027. Production on The Batman 2 is expected to begin this year.

Additionally, Reeves was heavily involved with HBO’s The Penguin, a spin-off set within the Batman Epic Crime Saga that comes from showrunner Lauren LeFranc and focuses on Colin Farrell’s Oswald “Oz” Cobb character. While it hasn’t been officially confirmed at this time, Reeves has stated before that he and other creatives are having discussions about potentially making The Penguin Season 2.

What update did Matt Reeves give on The Batman 2 and The Penguin Season 2?

Regarding The Penguin Season 2, Reeves confirmed to Happy Sad Confused’s Josh Horowitz that he, LeFranc, Farrell, and executive producer Dylan Clark are continuing to talk about continuing Oz’s story.

“Obviously, we’re doing The Batman 2, we want to get the timing right on that,” Reeves said. “Our plan and our hope is to absolutely do another season, we just have to come up with the idea that we think is the right idea, which is what we’re working on.”

Regarding The Batman 2’s release date change, Reeves said, “This year we’re going to be shooting and I’m very excited about it. There’s been a lot of stuff going on. It’s taken longer than I would have wanted but, also, I’m super excited about what we’re doing and I can’t wait to share that with everybody.”

Reeves didn’t share any specific details when asked about the main villain of The Batman 2; however, he did say he hopes and thinks that the main bad guy will be “surprising” to the audience.

“I think the story is a continuation, in a certain way, and completely different in another,” he commented. “It’s going to show different sides of Rob. I think it’s going to be really exciting, I think it’s going to be really cool.”
