Continuing on its newfound box office momentum in the wake of Project Hail Mary‘s immaculate theatrical run, Amazon MGM Studios’ next summer tentpole release, Masters of the Universe, will open in theaters in two weeks. While there’s still a lot of doubt about how the movie will perform following incoming competition from other summer titans that are set to open in June, the movie’s heavy embrace of ’80s nostalgia does give us something to be excited about.
Filled with a star-studded cast and a plethora of beloved He-Man characters, only time will tell if it can strike gold this summer. For now, here’s an overview of the full cast and characters for the movie.
1. Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man
Nicholas Galitzine, notable for his stint in The Idea of You, will star as Prince Adam, aka He-Man, the most powerful man in the universe. Having spent his childhood on Earth with no memories of his Royal Lineage, the Sword of Power finally calls him back to a war-torn Eternia, where he must not only reclaim his legacy as its greatest warrior but save his world and family from the threat of Skeletor.
2. Camila Mendes as Teela

Captain of the Royal Guard and the adoptive daughter of Duncan, the Man-At-Arms, Teela will be portrayed by Riverdale star Camila Mendes in the upcoming movie. Moreover, in addition to being a fierce warrior and one of Adam’s closest allies and lieutenant, she has also been one of Adam’s most enduring love interests throughout the different adaptations. As for the movie, Mendes’ Teela does seem like a prominent force who will be key to the resistance against Skeletor.
3. Idris Elba as Duncan

Idris Elba will take on the role of franchise favorite Duncan, who is often referred to as Man-At-Arms for his prowess as a master inventor and skilled warrior. Having taken a young Teela under his wing at the request of the Sorceress, he not only serves as a foster parent to one of Eternia’s fiercest warriors, but also as a mentor to a young Prince Adam, while acting as one of the team’s most reliable backbones.
4. Jared Leto as Skeletor

After a string of box-office disasters, Jared Leto has now turned his eyes to one of the most popular cartoon villains of all time in the role of Skeletor. The disfigured, skull-faced ruler of Skull Mountain and He-Man’s archenemy is King Randor’s disgraced half-brother, driven by revenge and an insatiable hunger for the godlike power locked within Castle Grayskull. It’ll be interesting to see if Leto, who looks unrecognizable as Skeletor, can finally break his box office woes with this movie.
5. Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn

morAlison Brie will play the femme fatale supervillain Evil-Lyn, who shares a love-hate dynamic with Skeletor, simultaneously serving as his most loyal ally and his least loyal foe. It’ll be interesting to see if the Together star can nail the snarky edge of Skeletor’s second-in-command, who is not only magically gifted but also ambitious in her ways.
6. James Purefoy as King Randor

James Purefoy will play King Randor, the ruler of Eternia and the biological father of Prince Adam. Having been separated from his son, who was raised on Earth, in many classic iterations of the story, King Randor tends to be unaware of Adam’s He-Man persona. But it appears the new adaptation has seemingly abandoned the secret-identity trope, as most of Adam’s allies seem to be aware of his true identity from the get-go.
7. Morena Baccarin as The Sorceress

The mystical guardian of Castle Grayskull and the biological mother of Teela, The Sorceress, will be portrayed by Morena Baccarin in the upcoming movie. Throughout He-Man’s journey, she serves as a pivotal mentor to Adam and acts as a bridge between the heroes and the magical forces of Eternia. Whether the movie explores her ties with Teela in greater depth remains to be seen.
8. Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson as Fisto

Renowned for playing intense and physically demanding characters, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson will star as the fan-favorite Fisto, who is known for his powerful metal fist and brings a sense of raw strength among the heroes. He’s often regarded as one of the noble warriors of Eternia and is a brother to Duncan and the adoptive uncle to Teela.
9. Kristen Wiig as Roboto

Kristen Wiig voices the mechanical warrior, who was created by Duncan, in the movie, breaking away from the characters’ decades-long history of being voiced by male figures. In addition to her unwavering loyalty to the heroes, Roboto often serves as the heart of the ensemble, and it remains to be seen what Wiig brings to the character in the upcoming adaptation.
10. Charlotte Riley as Queen Marlena

Charlotte Riley stars as Queen Marlena, the mother of Prince Adam, and is directly tied to his upbringing. Originally an astronaut from Earth, whose spaceship ends up crashing on Eternia, she eventually ties the knot with King Randor and gives birth to He-Man.
