Marvel’s X-Men reboot may have just found its star straight from the world of Beef. The studio is reportedly eyeing the Netflix hit’s breakout actor for a key role in the upcoming mutant franchise.
Charles Melton rumored for Marvel’s X-Men reboot
Marvel scooper MyTimeToShineHello has sparked fresh casting speculation around the upcoming X-Men reboot. The insider posted on X that they have “heard that Charles Melton is in talks for a role in Marvel’s X-Men reboot.” Marvel Studios has not officially confirmed any casting for the project at this stage.
Jake Schreier, the director behind Thunderbolts*, will helm the new X-Men film for Marvel Studios. Notably, the movie will follow the events of Avengers: Secret Wars and operate separately from the previous Fox-produced X-Men films. This marks a complete reboot of the mutant franchise under the Marvel Cinematic Universe banner.
Meanwhile, Melton, 35, first gained mainstream attention playing Reggie Mantle on The CW series Riverdale from 2017 to 2023. He earned critical acclaim for his performance in Todd Haynes’ 2023 drama May December alongside Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore. That role won him Best Supporting Actor honors from the Gotham Awards, National Society of Film Critics, and New York Film Critics Circle.
Additionally, the actor received a Golden Globe nomination for May December and a Critics’ Choice Movie Award nomination. He recently starred in Alex Garland’s A24 war film Warfare and appeared in season two of Netflix’s Beef alongside Oscar Isaac. His upcoming projects include Love Child with Elizabeth Olsen and Saturn Return, currently in post-production.
The original Fox X-Men films launched in 2000 and helped establish the modern superhero movie genre. Subsequently, Disney acquired 20th Century Fox in the late 2010s, bringing the X-Men rights back to Marvel Studios. MyTimeToShineHello has previously broken major Marvel casting and plot details, though individual scoops remain unverified until official announcements.
