Kathleen Kennedy’s departure from Lucasfilm has sparked discussion about the future of the Star Wars franchise. As the longtime president steps aside, two key figures have officially stepped into leadership roles at the studio.

Lucasfilm will be led by two executives after Kathleen Kennedy

Kathleen Kennedy will step down as president of Lucasfilm after nearly 14 years. Dave Filoni will succeed her as President and Chief Creative Officer. Lynwen Brennan will serve alongside him as Co-President of the studio. Both Filoni and Brennan will report to Disney Entertainment Co-Chairman Alan Bergman.

Kennedy will remain involved as producer of Lucasfilm’s upcoming theatrical releases, The Mandalorian and Grogu (2026) and Star Wars: Starfighter (2027). “It has been a true privilege to spend more than a decade working alongside the extraordinary talent at Lucasfilm,” Kennedy said. “I’m excited to continue developing films and television with both longtime collaborators and fresh voices.”

Dave Filoni joined Lucasfilm in 2005, working closely with George Lucas to launch Star Wars: The Clone Wars. He helped lead The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and Star Wars Rebels, earning multiple Emmy nominations. “From Rey to Grogu, Kathy has overseen the greatest expansion in Star Wars storytelling onscreen that we have ever seen,” said Filoni.

Lynwen Brennan joined Industrial Light & Magic in 1999 and became its president in 2009. Lucasfilm appointed her General Manager in 2015 and promoted her to President and General Manager in 2024. “I have unwavering faith in Dave’s creative vision for the next chapter in this storied studio’s legacy,” Brennan said.

Under Kennedy’s leadership, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Rogue One each grossed over $1 billion globally. She also oversaw The Mandalorian, Andor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ahsoka, and other series. Bob Iger said, “We’re deeply grateful for Kathleen Kennedy’s leadership, her vision, and her stewardship of such an iconic studio and brand.”
