After delivering one of the standout performances of 2025 in The Secret Agent, Wagner Moura has now joined forces with Kristen Stewart to headline her next vampire outing (via Deadline). Stewart, who is no stranger to the genre, has done an exceptional job rebranding herself as an actor since exiting the Twilight movies. Having delivered an acclaimed directorial debut with The Chronology of Water earlier this year, she is now set to lead Panos Cosmatos’s vampire thriller Flesh of the Gods.
Originally announced during the lead-up to Cannes Film Market in 2024, the project spent a significant amount of time in limbo before finally securing financing. Although no release date has been unveiled, the movie will be distributed by A24 in the US.
Wagner Moura Replaces Oscar Isaac in Flesh of the Gods
Considering Wagner Moura recently made history by becoming the first actor of Brazilian descent to receive the Best Actor nod, his involvement in the movie is bound to generate excitement. However, before his late addition to the project, Oscar Isaac had originally been cast to star opposite Kristen Stewart.
Isaac was initially set to play Raoul alongside Stewart’s Alex, a married couple who leave their luxury high-rise condo to explore the vibrant nightlife of ’80s Los Angeles. However, their lives begin to spiral after they encounter Nameless, a mysterious woman, played by Elizabeth Olsen, and her hedonistic inner circle, which draws them into a surreal and violent vampire underworld.
The Dune star, on the other hand, reportedly exited the project due to scheduling conflicts, which isn’t surprising given that the movie spent months in limbo. However, with Moura now joining forces with Stewart, it’s reasonable to be excited about this collaboration.

Given that one of the best movies of 2025 also featured a cult-like vampire faction, there is clearly an appetite for this movie if done right. And what further solidifies its case is the director, who is responsible for giving us Mandy, one of Nicolas Cage’s best movies.
Cosmatos shared that the upcoming movie will be a hot rod joy ride to hell, and going by the movie’s description, it seems the movie will be more in line with Mandy, at least in terms of its intensity and surrealism in the best way possible (via Variety).
Like Los Angeles itself, ‘Flesh of the Gods’ inhabits the liminal realm between fantasy and nightmare. Both propulsive and hypnotic, ‘Flesh’ will take you on a hot rod joy ride deep into the glittering heart of hell.
Cosmatos further described the movie as both wildly commercial and artful, suggesting that it will also pay homage to ’80s pop culture, fashion, etc. So, if you’re craving ’80s nostalgia combined with the surrealism of Mandy, and still in awe about Moura’s performance in Train Dreams, this should be right up your alley.
