Hollywood’s A-list stars Channing Tatum and Oscar Isaac are officially reuniting on the big screen after 13 years for a gritty crime thriller, Kockroach, via Variety. The duo last shared the screen in 2012’s rom-com 10 Years, which is sitting at 58% on Rotten Tomatoes and 6.1/10 on IMDb.

Back then, their movie barely made a mark; however, their new collaboration already feels like a stronger bet. With Matt Ross directing, Kockroach features a darker and high-stakes story, blending all the ingredients required to outshine their previous outing.

How is Channing Tatum and Oscar Isaac’s Kockroach Different From 10 Years?

Well, putting Kockroach and 10 Years in the same sentence feels wild because both films are further apart in theme, ambition, and tone.

Released in 2012, 10 Years was a sweet rom-com that centered around a high-school reunion. Directed by Jamie Linden in his debut, the movie heavily featured messy relationships, nostalgia, and the “what if” energy when old flames resurface. Alongside Channing Tatum and Oscar Isaac were Jenna Dewan, Justin Long, Rosario Dawson, Chris Pratt, and more in the cast, who kept things light, fun, and easy for the viewers. Unfortunately, the movie didn’t live up to the hype.

On the other hand, the upcoming Kockroach leans entirely on a different wavelength. Directed by Matt Ross and produced by Andrew Lazar’s Mad Chance Productions, this movie will explore noir-crime territory. Adapted from William Lashner’s 2007 novel, the story reimagines Kafka’s Metamorphosis. However, this time, it’s a cockroach that transforms into a man in 1950s New York and climbs his way up to a mob world.

With Tatum, Isaac, and Zazie Beetz in the lead roles, they are joined by Jonathan Ames on screenplay duties. Clearly, this movie will feature crime, action, and thrill, unlike the average date-night flick.

Overall, 10 Years was more about heartbreaks, reunions, and karaoke, but Kockroach will blend in power, survival, and identity. While the former is a playful nostalgia, the latter is a gritty transformation. So, this new project of the pair is indeed going to be bolder and darker, hopefully outshining their first project together.

Channing Tatum And Oscar Isaac’s Upcoming Projects

Channing Tatum and Oscar Isaac aren’t slowing down anytime soon. Both stars have several projects lined up.

After his recent stint in Deadpool & Wolverine and Blink Twice, Tatum is all set to dip his toes into multiple genres. Coming up soon is the English dub of Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, where he lent his voice as Keizo. Then there’s Roofman, a crime-comedy where he is set to play Jeffrey Manchester, a fugitive who hilariously robbed McDonald’s restaurants by sneaking in through rooftops.

It doesn’t end here. The Magic Mike star will also be a part of Josephine, a dark thriller about a child witness to a brutal assault. And finally, he’s suiting up for the most-awaited Avengers: Doomsday, joining heavyweights in the MCU like Pedro Pascal and Robert Downey Jr.

Meanwhile, Isaac, popularly known for Moon Knight, will explore darker territory with Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, playing a brilliant yet self-destructive scientist. He will also appear in In the Hand of Dante, featuring Dante’s manuscript, mob bosses, and literary legends.
