Jon Favreau has sparked speculation about his future in the Star Wars franchise. This comes after he suggested that his next project could mark the culmination of his seven-year run in the franchise.

Jon Favreau might exit Star Wars after seven years

After nearly a decade working within the Star Wars franchise, Jon Favreau has indicated that his next project could represent the completion of his current journey in the series. The filmmaker made the remarks during a promotional event for The Mandalorian & Grogu.

Reflecting on his time with the series, Favreau said, “I’ve been working on Star Wars now for seven years, and to be able to step up to doing it as a film feels like a culmination of what I’m working on (via Polygon).”

While he did not directly state that he plans to leave the franchise, describing the project as a culmination has prompted speculation that he could step back after its release. As of now, there has been no official confirmation or announcement indicating that Favreau will exit after the release. For now, his future in the franchise remains unknown.

The upcoming film holds added significance for Lucasfilm. It will be the first theatrical Star Wars release since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premiered in 2019. It marks the franchise’s return to cinemas after several years focused primarily on streaming content. The Mandalorian & Grogu is scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 22, although specific story details remain under wraps.

Pedro Pascal will reprise his role as Din Djarin. The cast also includes Sigourney Weaver as a New Republic colonel named Ward and Jeremy Allen White as Rotta, Jabba the Hutt’s son.
