Joe Igbokwe labels Atiku-Obi 2027 alliance as ‘childish and desperate’
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has openly criticised the reported political alignment between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
This follows reports suggesting that Atiku, the presidential flagbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 elections, is strategising to make a return in 2027 with Obi as his deputy.
Reacting to reports of the alleged move for a single-term presidency alliance, Igbokwe described the deal as unserious and driven by desperation.
Taking to his official Facebook page on Monday, Igbokwe, a known supporter of President Bola Tinubu, expressed strong disapproval of the alliance, calling it laughable and politically unviable.
“Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s childish and primitive deal with Labour Party is laughable and kindergarten. It is an act of desperation. It cannot fly and it cannot sell,” he wrote.
The reported alliance between Atiku and Obi, both influential figures in the opposition, has sparked political debates about possible realignments ahead of the next election cycle. However, the APC chieftain’s reaction signals the ruling party’s readiness to counter emerging opposition strategies.
