Ever since it was announced that Amazon had obtained the creative rights to the James Bond franchise, there has been constant speculation about who will play the new 007. Now, the search for the spy with a license to kill may have found a new frontrunner.
Who is reportedly in pole position to play the new James Bond?
In a new episode of The Rest is Entertainment podcast, The Guardian reporter Marina Hyde reveals that Jacob Elordi (Euphoria) is seemingly in an advantageous spot to play Bond.
“I have to say — just the mere fact of me saying this means it won’t happen — but I’ve heard from a number of people that Jacob Elordi has kind of moved into pole position,” said Hyde. “Nobody has signed anything yet, which is interesting because Callum Turner is way out ahead, ” she added.
While this is not confirmation that Elordi is the new Bond, it adds more weight to the theory that he will wind up being cast as the iconic spy. Amazon has yet to officially announce the casting, along with plot details and a release date. The untitled Bond film will be the 28th installment in the franchise, with Elordi, or whoever is cast in the role, being the eighth actor to portray the British agent.
Elordi is best known for playing Nate Jacobs in Euphoria, but the actor recently made headlines for being nominated at the Academy Awards for his portrayal of Frankenstein’s monster in Guillermo del Toro’s 2025 film.
Courtenay Valenti, head of film at Amazon MGM Studios, previously said in a statement that thhat the company will take its time to find the right actor for the role.
The upcoming James Bond movie will be directed by Denis Villeneuve and written by Steven Knight. Villeneuve will start work on the project following the release of Dune Part 3 this year.
