A new poster for The Odyssey has just made its way to the audience, and this time around, the buzz and comparison are even louder than they were when the pictures of the armour were released. This time around, the posture features someone wearing armor and a helmet, and the helmet, for some reason, appears to have a human spine running down the neck (see on X).

The meaning of this helmet feels like it might run a little more than skin deep, and could likely even suggest Odysseus’ own “backbone” and his character’s strength. After all, the story is set to encompass the story of the Greek king during his 10-year journey home after the Trojan War, during which he encounters multiple issues, both mythological and otherwise.
But while that’s that, it’s worth noting that this new picture is a striking contrast to the first image of this one of Christopher Nolan’s upcoming pieces, which was released back in February. Either way, this poster can be interpreted in a few ways: Either it’s to emphasize that the character is the spine of the story with that backbone, or that it’s a treacherously long road.

Apart from this new poster release, an approximately six-minute-long prologue for The Odyssey has started showing in front of IMAX 70mm screenings since earlier this week, and the same is also playing in front of Avatar: Fire and Ash. However, many netizens are less than happy about the wardrobe that Christopher Nolan has chosen for this film.
If anything, some of them have some really brutal comparisons for it, while others are simply laughing at it, especially the helmet and how it has been designed. All in all, on X, here’s what they have to say:

This movie better take place on another planet or involve aliens or time travelers warring in the ancient Mediterranean. Only that would justify this.— Tom (montalk.net) (@TomMontalk) December 20, 2025
Clearly, some fans aren’t all that pleased with Nolan’s choices for this film, featuring a star-studded cast, as of yet. But it’s worth remembering that we don’t know the mastermind filmmaker’s complete vision just yet, so already landing the final verdict on this film just because the costumes don’t feel historically accurate would be a bit too soon.
That said, fans might as well wait and see the final results to share their review on the film, which is set to release on July 17, 2026.
Everything We Know About The Odyssey So Far
As announced on X last year, The Odyssey will be a “mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology.” The story follows Odysseus, King of Ithaca, on his dangerous journey home after the Trojan war, during which he faces Polyphemus the Cyclops, Sirens, the nymph Calypso, and the witch goddess Circe in the treacherous oceans that separate him from his island home and wife Penelope.
This upcoming Christopher Nolan film features a pretty star-studded cast as well, including the likes of Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Mia Goth, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Benny Safdie, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Himesh Patel, Elliott Page, Bill Irwin, Samantha Morton, Jesse Garcia, Will Yun Lee, Corey Hawkins, Nick Tarabay, Jimmy Gonzales, Maurice Compte, and Logan Marshall-Green (via Deadline).
While the trailer of this film is currently screening in theatres only, a version of it has also leaked online (see Deadline). And that’s just about everything we know about the film, so far.
