INEC urges Nigerians to correct details and replace lost PVCs

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has urged eligible voters in Bauchi State to visit designated registration centres for corrections to personal details and replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

Resident Electoral Commissioner Umar Ibrahim made the announcement on Friday, August 22, during a press briefing, highlighting the resumption of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

Ibrahim explained that the exercise will cover fresh registration for new voters, correction of personal information such as names, dates of birth, gender, or addresses, replacement of lost, defaced, or damaged PVCs, transfer of voter registration within or across states, and collection of uncollected PVCs from the 2022 CVR.

He said both online and physical registration processes are underway. “The online pre-registration commenced on Monday, August 18, 2025, while physical registration will officially begin on Monday, August 25, 2025, at designated centres across Bauchi State. Both the online and physical processes will run simultaneously until August 30, 2026. To be eligible, one must be a Nigerian citizen, at least 18 years old, not previously registered, and physically present for biometric capture,” Ibrahim stated.

The REC noted that the online registration portal is available 24 hours at cvr.inecnigeria.org, while physical registration will take place at the INEC State Office in Bauchi and at 20 INEC Local Government Offices across the state, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm on weekdays, excluding public holidays.

He added that the Preliminary Register of Voters will be displayed quarterly for public scrutiny to allow claims, objections, and corrections, ensuring that only eligible voters remain on the final register.

Ibrahim warned that the commission would not tolerate multiple or underage registrations, proxy registration or collection of PVCs, or obstruction of officials performing their duties, noting that such offences attract stiff penalties under the Electoral Act 2022.

“I call on all eligible Nigerians in Bauchi State to take full advantage of this opportunity. Please register, update your records where necessary, and collect your PVCs. The Commission remains fully committed to ensuring a free, fair, transparent, and inclusive voter registration process,” he said.
