“I will never advise my son to play for this country” – Taribo West says painfully at Peter Rufai’s funeral

Former Super Eagles defender Taribo West could not hold back his emotions during the funeral rites of late goalkeeper Peter Rufai.

Speaking emotionally, the ex-Inter Milan star slammed both Lagos State and the Nigerian Football Association for neglecting the family of the late football legend.

According to him, the way Nigerian football treats its heroes after death is heartbreaking. He compared Rufai’s case to the sad stories of Stephen Keshi, Thompson Oleha and Rasheed Yekini, all late Super Eagles legends.

Taribo revealed how the neglect pained him so much that he had “goose pimples” all over his body and even shed tears – something he didn’t do when his own parents died.

In his words:

“With this kind of example, I will never advise even my son to put his feet for this country… Do we have a football federation or a football association in Lagos State? That this hero, this soldier, this football evangelist has to be treated this way and his family?”

He further lamented that Rufai’s family had to beg for money within their circle just to cover expenses, calling it “madness.”
