The next James Bond film has started its search for 007 but a Marvel star denies involvement. Paul Bettany, who plays Vision in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has refuted claims of ever being in talks to play the suave secret agent.
Paul Bettany on why he hasn’t been on the James Bond casting list
In an interview with Josh Horowitz, Bettany revealed that he was never in serious talks for being cast as Bond in any movie.
“No, I don’t know. I don’t think anybody ever says no to Bond,” said Bettany. “So, you know, they find out before even starting those conversations, [about] how interested you are in that sort of franchise. I don’t know that you ever get to– if they’re talking about you, it’s because [they want you].”
Bettany has officially denied being in talks for Bond, but several actors have reportedly already made the shortlist for Amazon MGM Studios. Jacob Elordi is said to be the frontrunner, with Callum Turner close behind. Although Amazon is keeping its cards close to the vest, the film’s script is developing on the right track either way.

The untitled Bond film will be the 28th entry in the legendary franchise. Whoever is cast in the role will be the eighth actor to portray the British agent, barring video games. The Head of Film at Amazon MGM Studios, Courtenay Valenti, previously said in a statement that the company will take its time to find the right fit. Bettany will next reprise his role as Vision in VisionQuest.
The upcoming James Bond movie will be directed by Denis Villeneuve and written by Steven Knight. Villeneuve will start his work on the film after the release of Dune Part 3 later this year.
