I cried for days, was nearly depressed over claim I snatched my friend’s husband — Veekee James
Fashion entrepreneur Veekee James has recounted the difficult period of online backlash she faced after marrying Femi Atere, disclosing that accusations she “snatched” her husband from a friend almost pushed her into depression.
James, who got married in October 2023 and later celebrated with grand traditional and white weddings in Akwa Ibom and Lagos in 2024, shared her emotional experience on the Nancy Isime Show.
She explained that online trolls spread false claims that her husband had previously dated one of her friends and that the pair were intimate before marriage.
According to her, during that painful time she leaned heavily on her faith, describing her recovery from the ordeal as nothing short of a “miracle.”
She added that since overcoming the episode, negative comments no longer get to her.
Veekee James said …
“There was one that really shook me. That was the period we had to ask God to help us come out of it. And immediately we came out of that, that was the end
“I think it was a story of how I stole him from a friend. And we were sleeping with each other. And so many of them are lies. It almost put me in depression. For the first time in my life, I got to understand what people who face depression feel.
I remember entering my room, and I did not come out for like two days. I was there crying and praying. And I told God, you know the stories. If you know that what they are saying is all lies, help us get through this without it ruining my brand.
“I remember waiting on God for days. And the way he brought me out was like a miracle. I have heard different stories, and it was just so easy for me to laugh about it. I remember my brother advising that I should not read comment,s but I read them to know why I am trending. To know which places I am doing too much.
“I ask God to help me and guide. To be honest, I do not plan to make a video with my kid where we are dancing and I am trying to hide them. I plan to have kids who would be role models in society.”
