It is possible for an imaginary element called Rapidium, which is pivotal to the plot of the game. The Alters requires the players to create new clones to progress. If you’ve played enough, you know much of it matters. Since each Alter brings special bonuses that make your lives easier. For instance, the Jan Scientist persona is the most important character in the entirety of Act 1. Without him, you’re pretty much doomed.
But the Quantum Computer only allows you to create three Alters, and during the Prologue, you’re forced to use one of the slots. Leaving you with the option of unlocking only two other Alters. Let’s say you used them both wisely, but after that, you’re stuck. And for that, you need to upgrade the Quantum Computer, but there’s no information on that.

Here’s the trick: you will need a Qubit Chip to upgrade your Quantum Computer. During Act 1, you’ll be able to find a Damaged Chip near the Mineral deposit area. But you cannot use it right away, as it’s broken. So, how do you fix it?
Right after you find the Damaged Chip, an optional quest will pop up asking you to consult with Jan Technician. After talking to him, he’ll ask you to fix it in the Workshop. Don’t worry, you don’t need to know a lot about computers to fix it.
In the Workshop menu, you’ll find a new option called Qubit Chip. This requires 20 Metals, 20 Minerals, and one Broken Chip. Select it and add it to the production queue. Producing it takes one hour of your time, so be wary of that.
You have the chip now, what to do next?
After making the Qubit Chip in the Workshop, you’ll need to insert it. You might think that would be difficult in The Alters, but it’s not. After crafting the chip, head to the Quantum Computer and interact with it.
On opening, you’ll be presented with a new screen called Qubit Upgrade Available. Simply hold down the upgrade option, and be ready to create new Alters. Upgrading the Quantum Computer to Level 2, you can create another Alter. The rest of the Qubit Chips can be found during Act 2, so don’t stress about missing them in Act 1.

However, there’s one bug that showed up on personal end, which didn’t allow the upgrading of the Quantum Computer to Level 2. There are some bugs like that here and there, which might cause a bit of trouble.
If you face that, simply load up a previous save and try again. In case that didn’t work out, then it’s best to wait for a patch update from the developers. It’s not present for all players, but it can show up sometimes. Other than that, you’re pretty much set.
