Hear Us Out, Alan Ritchson’s Perfect DCU Character Is Way More Powerful Than Batman

Alan Ritchson is currently circling Batman talks for James Gunn’s new DCU (via Variety), but he’s already proven himself with another DC character who is more powerful than Gotham’s Dark Knight! While we speculate whether Ritchson could be seen as the Caped Crusader next, his past role as Aquaman in Smallville makes a strong case for Gunn to cast him as the rightful King of Atlantis instead of the street’s vigilante.

Ritchson first played Arthur Curry, aka Aquaman, in Season 5 of Smallville, and reprised his role multiple times on the show. Unlike Jason Momoa’s rugged presence in the DCEU, Ritchson’s version was younger and lighter. So, let’s look at what Ritchson has to say about him starring as Batman, and allow us to present our case for why he is better suited to play Aquaman, once again.

Alan Ritchson Reveals His Batman Future in James Gunn’s DCU

Now that James Gunn and Peter Safran are reshaping DC movies and TV shows, Alan Ritchson has become a part of the conversation. However, according to his interview on Variety, it doesn’t seem like the actor has hopes about playing Batman, or perhaps he’s looking forward to essaying a different role in the universe.

Well, it’s not rumor that James Gunn is a fan. He said it himself. And am I a fan of James Gunn? Absolutely. I don’t want to mislead people. Words have been exchanged about Batman. But I strongly don’t think that Batman is in my future. I do think there is something in my future with DC. And I would like that to remain true.

Here’s what’s insightful and important about this statement: (1) Gunn and Ritchson are in talks, (2) Ritchson is saying that he might play another DC character in the future. So, we’re hoping that Gunn is considering him for Aquaman’s role, and that’s what Ritchson means when he refers to his “future with DC.”

Why James Gunn Should Summon Alan Ritchson for Aquaman Instead

Aquaman is simply a stronger character than Batman, and more fitting for Alan Ritchson. In the DC hierarchy of power, the Atleantean leaves the Dark Knight far behind. Apart from Jason Momoa’s charm, the great thing about his version was his physique, which perfectly matched what the character demanded.

Now we’ve seen Ritchson in Reacher, where he seems to have both of those qualities. Plus, he can handle high-impact action scenes with ease, and is probably one of the hardest-working action stars in the industry.

Though James Gunn is trying not to overlap by casting actors who’ve played previous iterations of DC characters, he can make an exception for Ritchson. But what do you think, would the actor make a better Aquaman or Batman? Let us know!

You can watch Smallville on Hulu, and Reacher on Prime Video (USA).
