Nicolas Cage has said that he was terrified of playing himself in the film The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, despite his eccentric career. The film is an action comedy in which Cage plays a fictionalized version of himself, who is down on his luck and agrees to attend the birthday party of a wealthy superfan, played by Pedro Pascal, hoping to earn some quick cash.
According to an interview with IndieWire, Nicolas Cage opened up about his time while filming the movie and also claimed it to be one of the best, yet scariest projects he ever did. The Ghost Rider actor has been involved with the industry for more than four decades and has starred in some of the best and most famous movies of all time, and Massive Talent is certainly one of them.

“I think I’ve done some of the best work in the last 10 years of my entire life and I put ‘Massive Talent’ in that period, which has been, in some ways, marginalized by certain folks in the media. But in all that time, in the 43 years I’ve been doing it, ‘Massive Talent’ is hands down the scariest thing I’ve ever done.”

Nicolas Cage was hesitant to take the role in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. He declined the role three or four times before finally accepting. At first, he felt that playing a fictionalized version of himself would be offensive and that it would make a mockery of his professional life, but soon after some convincing from director Tom Gormican, he was ultimately persuaded to take the part.
