Jujutsu Kaisen has been quite popular since the release of the series. Fans were waiting impatiently for the anime to return with Season 2 this year. All the villains have been planning something catastrophic, and Yuji has a lot on his plate to deal with. According to a French interview recently, the Mangaka of Jujutsu Kaisen opened up about how Mahito reminds them of a massive antagonist from the Marvel Universe.

While Mahito doesn’t have any relationship with the Avengers, the villain from Jujutsu Kaisen has quite a lot of things in common with the Crazy Titan, Thanos. Gege Akutami told how Mahito resembles Thanos, and their reasons are pretty understandable.

“The principle behind Mahito is quite similar to that of Sukuna,” Akutami said in the interview. He also elaborated on how Sukuna isn’t a person open to others’ love. However, it’s not that he is trying to atone for his sins. Gege Akutami added in the interview, “I wanted to avoid the classic gimmick of “but deep down, he is nice.”
“Mahito is intrinsically evil, deep down, he only thinks about making humans suffer. But can he be totally proven wrong? It reminds me of Thanos in Avengers: Endgame.” The Mangaka said that the villain wants humans to suffer, similar to how Thanos wanted to perish the human race. Mangaka also adds, at the end of the interview, “In the end, I never felt hatred for him.”
Gege Akutami is rather fluent when it comes to writing the villains for their series. They didn’t paint everything in a shade of black and white but rather called Mahito an “intrinsically evil” character.

In the eyes of Gege Akutami, Thanos and Mahito are fruits of the same plant because of their inherent evilness. Thanos has been psychotic since his introduction in the Marvel Universe, while Mahito roams around as a cursed spirit. Both of them are very adamant when it comes to their goals, and they’re willing to let no amount of bloodshed stop them from reaching their targets.
Mahito and Thanos have an intrinsically evil nature, despite which it’s rather challenging to hate their character. To hate a character who has an innately evil nature is a different thing. The perspective these two characters have of the world justifies their actions if fans were to perceive things with a rather broad mind. Despite being villains, these characters know nothing other than conflict, which makes it hard to hate them.
