In the Dragon Ball universe, Saiyans don’t just become stronger; they keep finding new ways to break their own limits! There is an exciting group of Saiyan transformations that stand above the rest, each showing just how far Goku, Vegeta, and Broly can push their power.
From Super Saiyan 3 to the godly forms and Goku’s primal Super Saiyan 4, these transformations have changed the course of some of Dragon Ball‘s biggest battles. For this ranking, we are looking at canon Saiyan transformations and judging them by their power, impact, and importance in the story.
5. Super Saiyan 3 Gave Goku a Massive Power Boost

Super Saiyan 3 was a huge moment for Goku. He first revealed the form during the Majin Buu Saga when he transformed in front of Majin Buu. With its long golden hair and massive jump in power, it instantly felt like something far beyond the earlier Super Saiyan forms.
The problem was that SSJ3 burned through energy incredibly fast. That stopped it from being as useful as the forms that came later. Still, the transformation was strong enough to fight Majin Buu and remains one of Goku’s most iconic forms. It takes the fifth spot because the newer godly transformations offer much more power and better control.

Super Saiyan God changed Dragon Ball forever. Goku unlocked it during the Battle of Gods arc after receiving the power of other Saiyans. He then faced Beerus, giving fans their first real look at how powerful the Gods of Destruction were.
What makes this form special is that it did more than give Goku another power boost. It introduced god ki and opened the door to an entirely new level of fighting. That puts it above SSJ3, even though it did not remain Goku’s strongest form ever for long.
3. Super Saiyan Blue Made Godly Power a Saiyan’s Own
Super Saiyan Blue took the power of Super Saiyan God and combined it with Super Saiyan. Goku and Vegeta achieved the form after training under Whis, and it quickly became one of their main weapons in Dragon Ball Super.
Blue gets the third spot because of how important it became across the series. Goku used it against Golden Frieza, Hit, and several powerful opponents, while Vegeta also pushed the form to new heights.
2. Legendary Super Saiyan Turned Broly Into a Monster

Broly is not an ordinary Saiyan, and Dragon Ball Super: Broly makes that very clear. After growing up on Planet Vampa and learning to survive in brutal conditions, Broly returns to the main story with a level of natural power that even Goku and Vegeta struggle to understand. His green-haired Super Saiyan Full Power form is commonly known as the Legendary Super Saiyan state.
The transformation makes Broly even more frightening because his power keeps rising as he fights. During the climax of the movie, he pushes past both Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Blue Goku and Vegeta, forcing them to use Fusion. That incredible growth puts Broly above Blue on this list, but one Super Saiyan transformation takes the top spot because of its unique power.

Super Saiyan 4 has come a long way. For years, it was known as one of the defining transformations of Dragon Ball GT, but Dragon Ball DAIMA changed its place in the franchise. The series officially brought SSJ4 into the main continuity, with Goku unlocking the form during the final battle against Gomah.
What makes Super Saiyan 4 so exciting is that it does not simply build on the usual golden-haired Super Saiyan path. It brings back the Saiyan’s primal side, connecting Goku’s power to the Great Ape while keeping his human-like control. That makes SSJ4 feel very different from God and Blue, and its canon return gives it an even bigger place in Dragon Ball history, which is why it takes the top spot here.
Now the big question: Which Saiyan transformation do you think deserves the No. 1 spot? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
