What is Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole About?
Crafted by the original author himself, it is based on one of the greatest crime tales ever written and has been translated into several languages. A whodunit series, it brings the antihero Harry Hole to life, who is struggling with his own demons while also working as a rather brilliant homicide detective.
Here’s what the synopsis of the series reads (via Tudum):
Underneath the surface, Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole is a nuanced character drama about two police officers — and supposed colleagues — operating on opposite sides of the law. Throughout the first season, Harry goes head-to-head with his longtime adversary, the corrupt Detective Tom Waaler, as the two navigate the blurred ethical lines of the criminal justice system. But only time will tell whether Harry can catch the serial killer –– while also bringing Tom to justice –– before it’s too late.
The first season is the adaptation of the fifth book in Nesbø’s Harry Hole book series, The Devil’s Star. Unlike the other books in the series, it is a story told through Harry’s perspective, and director Karlsen reckons people will have to watch it twice to get the plot right (via Tudum).

Meanwhile, the author, creator, and showrunner, Jo Nesbø, revealed that he is excited to bring this version of Harry Hole to the screen. The show was filmed over 113 days in Norway’s capital, Oslo, filming at more than 160 different locations.
Previously, Michael Fassbender portrayed Harry Hole in 2017’s The Snowman, based on the seventh book of the novel series. Unfortunately, it only managed to earn $43 million worldwide against a budget of $35 million, making it a flop (via Box Office Mojo).
