With DC Studios now moving ahead with the Jimmy Olsen-centric DC Crime series, fans have started to speculate that the Superman spin-off could mark the Flash’s debut in the DCU. Recently confirmed details regarding the show have not only revealed what the project entails but have also given insight into the slate of characters that will feature in the series. The spin-off’s villain roster also includes Gorilla Grodd, an iconic arch-nemesis of the Scarlet Speedster, causing many to conclude that the arrival of the fastest man in the DCU seems inevitable.
Fans say the Flash could make a ‘little cameo’ in upcoming Jimmy Olsen series
Reports have confirmed that the Jimmy Olsen spin-off show, titled DC Crime, is now in development at DC Studios, with Skyler Gisondo expected to reprise his role from the Superman film. The series would focus on Olsen and other Daily Planet reporters taking on cases that involve supervillains, with Gorilla Grodd set to take center stage in the first season.
In DC pages, Grodd is a super-intelligent evil ape who primarily serves as an antagonist for the Flash. As such, several fans have taken to the internet to claim that his debut in DC Crime could set the stage for the Flash’s first appearance in the DCU.
“Imagine this is where we get our first look at the other heroes in the DCU (ie: A red streak with lightning for The Flash etc.),” said one DC enthusiast on X (formerly Twitter). Meanwhile, another user speculated, “I could definitely see this happening, not as a role but as a flashback or little cameo with Grodd.”
However, not everyone seems to be happy with the idea of the Flash making his DCU debut in a Superman spin-off show. One X user noted, “It would be the stupidest idea ever to introduce the DCU Flash in a Jimmy Olsen show lmao.”
Furthermore, a second fan jokingly highlighted how no big-screen franchise seems to have cracked the formula to handle the beloved speedster, writing, “DCEU gave us Flash with no Flash villains and the DCU is poised to give us Flash villains with no Flash. I hope the next DCU rebrand finally puts the pieces together and gives us no Flash with no Flash villains.”
At the time of writing, it remains unknown the Flash will make his DCU debut in DC Crime. The spin-off series also doesn’t have an official release date.
