Channing Tatum will return as Gambit in Avengers: Doomsday. While he isn’t allowed to reveal much information about the movie, given Marvel’s strict adherence to secrecy, the actor did acknowledge the challenge that Doomsday faces, especially given how huge the previous Avengers movies were.
Appearing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the Deadpool & Wolverine star recalled being concerned about whether the Russo brothers could outdo their previous work.
They have to exceed their expectations every single time, and I was like, ‘How are they going to do it? How are they going to surpass the last thing they did.’My first question after reading the script was, ‘How are you guys going to pull this story off?’
Tatum’s concerns are valid, as the hype surrounding Endgame was something else, which makes sense as it was the conclusion of a decade-long storyline.

Despite his initial reservations, the actor confessed to being blown away by what the Russo brothers had up their sleeves for the ambitious crossover. However, beyond his excitement for joining the MCU’s most ambitious movie to date, he ensured no details from the script slipped during the interview.
Considering the actor originally in line to headline a Gambit movie, which never came to fruition, realizing the character in Deadpool & Wolverine was a dream come true for the actor. As for Doomsday, he’s excited to finally join forces with the rest of the X-Men crew, who are set to appear in Doomsday.

Although the movie can exceed expectations, nabbing that feat won’t be a cakewalk, as Doomsday lacks one of the most essential aspects that made Endgame a cultural behemoth, the build-up.
Avengers: Doomsday Has a Tough Battle to Beat Endgame Hype
Part of the reason why Endgame was a big deal was that it was the conclusion to the Infinity Saga. Even though the Infinity Saga wasn’t perfect, the decade-long journey from Iron Man to Endgame allowed the overarching narrative to develop organically.

On the flip side, the multiversal saga, despite starting on a promising note with WandaVision, lost its edge by oversaturating the brand across TV and movies. As a result, despite being at the tail end of this chapter, we are barely engrossed in the overarching narrative, apart from the fact that Robert Downey Jr will play the big bad, who has had no development so far.
While it’s entirely possible the Russo brothers can deliver a solid conclusion to a saga whose biggest movies revolved around nostalgia bait rather than organic stories, a repeat of Endgame‘s hype seems a distant possibility.
