Brendan fraser as superman 2 astounding reasons the mummy 4 star turned down scrapped dc film
Spread the love

Brendan Fraser is making waves in the industry. First, it was the update on Mummy 4, and now his revelation about being Superman in J.J. Abrams’ outing. The actor, who we all also know for being the George of the Jungle, recently sat down to have an opulent conversation with the Happy Sad Confused podcast’s host, Josh Horowitz.

During the November 20 interview, Fraser detailed that he had tried the Superman costume on and had even read the script. However, he also mentioned his thoughts behind rejecting the film, remembering thinking,

If I do get this job, then, well, I think Superman’s gonna be chipped on my gravestone. There’s an element of, you are that for the rest of your days, your career. And that’s not a bad thing; I’m not saying it’s gonna kill me any time soon, but it is something that becomes part of your entire brand, who you are.

He then went on to add,

And I don’t know if I was ready to take that on then.

Talking to Horowitz, he even characterized his rejection with the words of director Terry George, “if it’s not for you, then it’ll pass you by.”

For those unversed, Fraser screentested the superhero role before Warner Bros. decided to settle with Bryan Singer’s version, which was released in 2006, Superman Returns. It was Brandon Routh who played Clark Kent, aka Superman, in that film, with the absolute, Kevin Spacey portraying the antagonist Lex Luthor. Joining them were Kate Bosworth as well as James Marsden, the mutant Cyclops in Avengers: Doomsday.

Are We Still Getting JJ Abrams’ Superman?

David Corenswet’s Superman | DC Studios

Wrapping up the storyline of Singer’s Superman, we have now come into an era of the DC Universe, also way past Zack Snyder’s DCEU. While the new DCU is led by co-chairs James Gunn and Peter Safran, the former confirmed that a Superman from J.J. Abrams is still in progress.

As per Deadline, it was back in 2021, when reports resurfaced that Abrams was producing a Superman reboot. The outlet also states that the movie was supposed to be penned by Ta-Neshi Coates. While no plot was revealed, it was confirmed by Gunn that Abram’s Superman would exist in Elseworlds.

This is an alternate universe for which the Warner Bros. animated DC outings are largely celebrated. This also confirms that Gunn’s Superman, who is being portrayed by David Corenswet, will still be in the picture and, in fact, the main Kryptonian in the DC Universe.

2025’s Superman, which was previously titled Superman Legacy, stars Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, joining her is Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, with Milly Alcock taking over the brat character of Supergirl.

Will DCU Have Another Justice League?

With Gunn confirming the existence of another Superman in the Elseworlds, intrigue erupts for the existence of another Justice League in another timeline. The fact that Abram’s Superman would be a part of the Elseworlds further raises the possibility of another Justice League.

If you are unaware, while no Batman has been announced for the DCU, Robert Pattinson, who took over the role of the Caped Crusader back in 2022, is the Batman of the Elseworlds. Now that two of the DC trio have been revealed to exist in the Elseworlds, it’s just Wonder Woman who has not been named.

Here are the existing members of the DC trio in DCU.
