Avengers: Doomsday will end on a cliffhanger, according to Captain America star Anthony Mackie.

Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday will hit United States theaters next year. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, also known as the Russo Brothers, the movie will be followed by 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars.

What did Anthony Mackie say about Avengers: Doomsday’s cliffhanger ending?

Speaking with Collider, Mackie said of Avengers: Doomsday, “You know what? I was really excited, man. It’s one of those stories that really pushes the boundaries, and it — the cliffhanger at the end, you know, the last moments of the film — it really builds and sets us up for a way for the continuation of the Marvel saga, which is really exciting.

“…You see these characters, and you see how they’re introduced and how they play in the universe moving forward, and no one is safe. Everyone is expendable.”

Avengers: Doomsday is currently in production. Along with Mackie as Sam Wilson, the cast of the MCU movie includes Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Wyatt Russell as John Walker, Tenoch Huerta Mejía as Namor, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Lewis Pullman as Sentry, Danny Ramirez as Falcon, Joseph Quinn as Human Torch, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, James Marsden as Cyclops, Channing Tatum as Gambit, Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, and Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom.

Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday will be released in United States theaters on May 1, 2026. Avengers: Secret Wars then follows on May 7, 2027.
