Avengers: Doomsday director Anthony Russo has commented on how large of a role Chris Evans will have in the MCU movie.
Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday is currently in post-production. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, also known as the Russo Brothers, the movie will be released in United States theaters at the end of the year. The sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, then arrives in 2026.
So far, Marvel has released four Avengers: Doomsday teaser trailers. The first teaser revealed that Chris Evans — who was not part of the initial cast announcement — will be reprising his MCU role as Steve Rogers, while the second focused on Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and the third on a handful of X-Men characters. The fourth teaser then put the spotlight on Letitia Wright’s Black Panther/Shuri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s Ben Grimm/The Thing, and more.
What did Anthony Russo say about Avengers: Doomsday?
Speaking with Empire Magazine, per Cosmic Marvel on Twitter, Anthony Russo said that Chris Evans will have a “central role” in Avengers: Doomsday.
“We have a special affinity with the character, we can’t see this narrative without his central role in it, basically. The special place he holds among the ensemble, he sort of retains that moving forward,” Russo said.

Avengers: Doomsday is dated for December 18, 2026. Avengers: Secret Wars then follows on December 17, 2027.
