The summary ending of Attack on Titan, which compiled the final two episodes of the series into a 2-hour & 24-minute-long movie, Attack on Titan: The Last Attack, is returning to theaters in the United States and Canada on May 18, 2026, for a special one-night screening.
And the best part about it is that fans will be able to watch the movie’s post-credit scene in a new 4K version as part of the Crunchyroll Anime Nights program (via Crunchyroll’s announcement post).
This will be a nice opportunity for those who were unsatisfied with the original ending and wished to watch the movie’s special ending in theaters. But what exactly are the new movie-original scenes added at the end of The Last Attack movie? Below, we’ve broken it down for you.
Attack on Titan: The Last Attack Ending Explained: What Extra Content Was Added
The original ending of the anime, titled Attack on Titan: Final Season – The Final Chapters, was released as two special TV episodes. Of course, that ending followed the manga and concluded the storyline by showing Paradis Island eventually being engulfed in another war after thriving for years following Eren’s sacrifice, suggesting that history might repeat itself.
However, in the summary movie, titled Attack on Titan: The Last Attack, which was originally released in US theaters on February 10, 2025, extra scenes were added where our favorite characters from the series are shown in a future timeline, as suggested.
The movie’s post-credit scene introduces Eren, Mikasa, and Armin, who had just finished watching a movie based on Attack on Titan in theaters. While Mikasa seemed satisfied with the conclusion, Armin noticed many flaws and unresolved plot points in the film. Therefore, the two argued with each other.
Now, if you think about it, doesn’t that situation resonate with the entire AOT fanbase after the anime’s original ending? The movie-exclusive scenes portrayed the fans’ point of view, placing our favorite trio in a post-AOT world where it’s still debated whether Titans actually existed in the past or not.
Why the Attack on Titan: The Last Attack Movie’s Alternate Ending Matters

Fans were not satisfied with the original anime ending because it suggested that Eren’s entire goal to stop war and hatred was never realized. While it may seem akin to real-world scenarios, in a fantasy storyline, fans might have expected the series to set a good example. This led to frustration among viewers.
However, Attack on Titan: The Last Attack shows another future world or timeline where peace is seemingly restored. Characters presented as Levi, Eren, Armin, and Mikasa of the new generation are living fulfilling, calm lives in an advanced world, and you’d love to see them banter.
The presence of Titans is simply relegated to fiction from movies. Therefore, many fans have come to appreciate this alternate ending. While the conclusion may feel somewhat out of place and missing the original AOT essence, Eren’s goal to bring peace was at least fulfilled.
