Assassin’s Creed Shadows x Attack on Titan Crossover Has Convinced Me Ubisoft Has Lost Its Way

I’ll be honest, I never thought I’d see Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Attack on Titan in the same sentence, but here we are. At first glance, I thought this crossover was absolutely fantastic as it has everything you can imagine, from Mikasa’s outfit to new quests and adventures.

But when I took a closer look and saw what’s underneath it all, this crossover starts to feel like a cheap cash grab.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows x Attack on Titan Feels Like a Fan Mod

As I’ve already mentioned before, the Assassin’s Creed Shadows x Attack on Titan crossover has everything you could expect on paper. However, play it for a few seconds yourself, or just watch the gameplay footage. Does any of this look high-quality to you? The more you look at the visuals for this, the more it feels like a cheap fan-made knockoff instead of something from a major AAA studio.

Seriously, just take a look at the Titan transformation in the crossover quest. It’s shocking how terrible and out of place it looks. The Titan’s face feels uncanny and something out of a 2000s game. Even the community agrees that the giant Michael Rooker boss fight from Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 didn’t look this awkward or rough.

Keep the visuals aside for a minute, and have a look at the questline itself. Yes, I’ve unlocked some cool rewards, but the content is very short and doesn’t bring much to the table. The whole quest took me 25-30 minutes to finish, which just doesn’t feel right for a crossover of this scale. Attack on Titan is one of the biggest properties, and every game we’ve seen collaborating with the anime has absolutely smashed it.

Ubisoft genuinely could’ve done a lot of things. We could’ve seen more additions and boss fights like with the Founding Titan, or even cosmetics like ODM Gear. However, what Ubisoft chose to deliver was a half-baked crossover. The more I watch and play it, the clearer it comes that Ubisoft doesn’t have a shred of an idea of what’s going on with one of its biggest franchises.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Needs Better Crossovers

Let’s be honest, even without this crossover, Assassin’s Creed Shadows isn’t really a particularly great game. It was already engulfed in controversy before launch, and while Ubisoft is trying to make things smooth with this crossover, it’s clearly not working enough.

What Ubisoft really needs to do is pursue more of these crossovers, but actually give them the time they deserve in development. Even if it takes several months, the result would be far better, and truly feel like true high-quality content.

Players want crossovers with better questlines and additions that genuinely shake up the core experience. If such trends continue, it won’t be long before this game loses its relevance and takes a hit.

With that said, what do you think about the Assassin’s Creed Shadows x Attack on Titan quest? Let us know in the comments below.
