Fighting bosses is fun, but getting your drip check right is where it can really get frustrating in Crimson Desert. After all, you might have slayed the enemy, but were you looking good while doing it? The better news is that the game’s armor customisation system is one of the most satisfying parts of the game, letting you go from a mismatched warrior to one with a fully color-coordinated set.
At the heart of this armor customisation system are dyes, and this guide will cover everything you need to know, including how to actually apply dye to your armor step by step, as well as every single dye recipe in the game, from Bright Red all the way to Deep Orange.
How to Dye Your Armor in Crimson Desert

Want to start coloring your armor pieces right away? You might have to hold your horses for now if you haven’t completed the Brightening the Spirits quest chain yet, given by Naira. It is a part of the Scattered Embers questline at Howling Hill, and asks you to gather materials for and craft a Bright Red Dye at a cauldron, for which you will need to head to the Alchemy Lab cauldron in the city of Hernand.
Once crafted, open your inventory and select “Use” on the dye bottle to permanently learn the color. The next step would be to head to the Hernand Farmland Dyehouse, speak with the dyer, apply the color to your armor, and return to Naira to complete the quest. Doing this should unlock the full dye system in Crimson Desert for you.
Getting Dyes and Using Them in Crimson Desert
There are three primary ways to acquire dye in Crimson Desert. The first and easiest is to buy dye bottles directly from Dyehouse vendors that can be found around the in-game world. The second is to find dye bottles as loot in the open world or steal them from NPC homes. The third and final method would be to craft dyes yourself at a cauldron using flowers and insects collected as loot during exploration.
In Crimson Desert, cauldrons are commonly available and can additionally be found in every Witch location. To find a few, feel free to head to the Hernand Town Alchemy Lab, Shadow’s Whisper cave, and the Greymane Camp Alchemy Lab. Inside the cauldron menu, switch to the Dye tab and select a recipe. Flowers determine the base color, and insects control the shade.
To apply these newly-crafted dyes to your gear, head towards any Dyehouse or Oliver, found in the Greymane camp, and select the piece of gear you want to recolor. The system allows you to dye individual sections of each piece of equipment separately, and all you have to do is choose your color and adjust the material finish if you want.

Additionally, interacting with regional vendors makes it so that their color family becomes available at your camp Dyehouse once Oliver has been recruited.
