Akpabio Reacts To Senator Natasha’s IPU Visit, Accuses Her Of Distorting Facts
During a plenary session on Thursday, Senate President Godswill Akpabio accused Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of distorting facts in her petition to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), alleging that she deliberately misrepresented events to tarnish Nigeria’s image on the global stage.
Addressing the assembly, Akpabio dismissed Natasha’s claims as misleading and politically motivated.
“She distorted the facts in order to embarrass Nigeria before the world. Her actions could negatively affect men’s perception of women in politics,” he stated.
His remarks were met with nods of agreement from some lawmakers, who went further to pass a vote of confidence in his leadership.
Natasha had petitioned the IPU following her six-month suspension from the Senate, arguing that her punishment was not about misconduct but rather retaliation for her sexual harassment allegations against Akpabio. While the IPU has acknowledged her complaint, the organization insists on hearing from both sides before making a decision.
