Afrobeats star Adekunle Gold has given fans a surprising backstory to Simile, one of the songs on his upcoming album, Fuji.

On Tuesday, September 16, 2025, the singer revealed that the track Simile was originally written and recorded for Beyoncé’s 2019 project, The Lion King: The Gift.

Although Simile didn’t make it onto Beyoncé’s album, Adekunle Gold decided to bring it to life on Fuji, giving listeners a chance to experience a record that carries an unexpected global connection. The revelation has only fueled anticipation for his sixth studio album, which is set for release on October 3, 2025.

Adekunle Gold has described Fuji as his boldest project yet, a work that seeks to revive and globalize the indigenous Yoruba Fuji sound. For him, the genre represents a return to his roots and the original purpose of his music, telling stories.

The album is deeply personal, drawing from his journey over the past five years. It reflects on lost friendships, triumphs, fatherhood, and the grief of losing his father. According to him, this is his “greatest work yet.”

Fans have already had a taste of what’s coming through singles like Coco Money and Bobo, both of which lean heavily into Fuji-inspired rhythms. The project is also expected to feature Fuji legend K1 De Ultimate, alongside international stars such as Pharrell Williams and Swae Lee.

By combining traditional Nigerian sounds with modern production, Adekunle Gold continues to push the boundaries of Afrobeats while staying true to his heritage. The story behind Simile only adds another layer of excitement as fans count down to the release of Fuji.
