About Damn Time: 10 DCU Villains Who Could Finally Give Jim Carrey an Oscar

The award season is here. With Hollywood celebrating some of the biggest names, a list still remains unattended of actors who have never been on the stage nabbing the accolade. One of these names includes Jim Carrey. We think he can fit the now rebooted DC Universe, donning the character of an antagonist in the best way. A role that should earn him an Oscar.

The actor has been continually releasing hit after hit. Be it The Truman Show, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, or maybe his usual comic entries, Bruce Almighty, Dumb and Dumber, Ace Ventura, and others. However, he has neither won nor been nominated for an Academy Award in any category.

Which is why we are here with a list of roles that we think will suit the actor and also help him earn an Oscar in the future. These roles are basically of a villain, which again has been played by Carrey as seen in the Sonic the Hedgehog film series. Below are the DCU villains we think Jim Carrey should play and nab the Academy Award.

10. Jim Carrey’s Previous Films Make Him Perfect for Clayface

Jim Carrey has been portraying characters that are basically not humans. More importantly, they haven’t been CGI characters but had terrific practical effects and makeup. Be it The Grinch Who Stole Christmas or The Mask, he has played them beautifully, while also voicing some animated characters.

Clayface has an intense backstory. Moreover, the way Batman: The Animated Series showcased Clayface in the episode Feats of Clay: Part II  was exceptional. Once the creature takes his form, it will be the usual stuff for Carrey to voice a character.

9. A Deranged Jim Carrey as Reverse Flash

Reverse Flash is one of the most insanely intelligent characters. He has been a trouble for his protagonist counterpart, bringing in a twist in Flash’s storyline with a shock.

Portraying Reverse Flash would be a new journey for Jim Carrey. He is not just a villain, but has some really ill schemes. Meanwhile, Carrey could bring his own touch of comic acting to the role while also being a feared villain.

Reverse Fash’s insanity would look even worse when portrayed by Carrey. After all, Reverse Flash has also been a time traveller, which might have affected his biological and mental state.

8. Jim Carrey’s Physique Is That of Sinestro

It was Mark Strong who previously portrayed Sinestro in the 2011 film Green Lantern, also starring alongside Ryan Reynolds. He is another DC villain that we think Jim Carrey should portray on screen. If we take a look at the character’s looks, he is slim with a slightly large head. The role won’t be much different than that of Professor Gerald Robotnik from the Sonic series.

Sinestro is an alien species who was once a part of the Green Lantern Corps but was dishonorably discharged. Following this rage and a few personal grudges, he dons the suit of a Yellow Lantern.

7. A Mad Scientist T.O. Morrow

A very non-stereotypical villain, Thomas Oscar Morrow, aka T.O. Morrow, is the creator of androids. In case you don’t know, he is also the maker of Red Tornado as well as Tomorrow Woman. T.O Morrow is a mad scientist and a supervillain in the DC Comics. He won’t be too tough for Carrey to play when it comes to the looks.

Moreover, the scientist has a great storyline and a reputable villainous position in the tale of the Justice League. He is a recurring antagonist faced by the Justice League, being a member of the Injustice League and the Science Squad. The character was previously portrayed by Iddo Goldberg in the Arrowverse series Supergirl.

6. Jim Carrey Needs a Ruthless Role Like Brainiac

Brainiac in DC | Credit: DC Comics

Brainiac is one of the greatest villains DC has ever given its fans. He is not only a Superman-level threat but also a Justice League-level antagonist.

He is one cruel AI being, and his plans are evil enough to unite Superman and Lex Luthor. Yes, the next entry of DCU Superman will feature Brainiac as its next villain. Meanwhile, David Corenswet’s Clark Kent, aka Superman, and Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor will reportedly unite against the evil force. If Jim Carrey had a chance to play Brainiac, he would have received wide appreciation not only from comic lovers and superhero fanatics but also from critics. Unfortunately, the role is already someone else’s, and this opportunity has passed for Carrey.

Man of Tomorrow is expected to hit the screens on July 9, 2027. James Gunn announced on his Instagram that Lars Eidinger will play the character in the film.

5. Exploring Insanity: Scarecrow

Dr. Jonathan Crane is another character suffering from insanity. In case you haven’t watched Gotham the series, hit the screens right away as it Scarecrow’s story that dives deeper. The same character was previously played by Cillian Murphy in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight films. And it looks like it’s time to give Jim Carrey his chance to don the brown mask.

Crane’s character is not only a psychopath but also a criminal mastermind. Being one of the most loved villains of Batman, we can hope Carrey to play Scarecrow in a future DCU Batman movie. It will be fun to see Batman fight the villain the whole time, with the actor being revealed towards the end. And as soon as Carrey’s face is revealed, he gets into his comic self, portraying Crane’s disturbed mental state.

Just imagine Jim Carrey being in Arkham Asylum.

4. Professor Pyg Is Another Best Shot for Jim Carrey

Professor Pyg | Credits: DC Comics

Pyg, whose real name is Lazlo Valentin, is the darkest and most disturbing villain of Batman. If you think Joker is disturbed or psycho enough to scare you, wait till you hear Professor Pyg’s plans. To calm his mind, he kidnaps innocent citizens of Gotham only to experiment on them.

Professor Pyg is a bit fat-looking character compared to Jim Carrey’s physical appearance. But hey, if Colin Farrell can play Penguin, confusing people over his looks, Carrey, with his skillset, is best to portray the role.

Pyg should get a solo film in DCU dark enough to make it Oscar worthy.

3. The Batman Who Laughs: A Very Usual Role That Will Give Shivers

This is one of the most disturbing storylines and characters in the DC. He is literally Batman, but the one who is insane and has killed every other superhero on his Earth. Again, the skinny looks fit Carrey. However, when the villain first appears on screen, it will not be pure cold shivers running down your spine.

A bleeding Jim Carrey, wearing the costume of Batman but also the smile of Joker.

2. Jim Carrey Was Born to Play Joker

This is a character that has been loved for generations. Joker is a role that has been portrayed by a lot of actors. From Jack Nicholson, Cesar Romero, Heath Ledger, to the latest being Joaquin Phoenix and Barry Keoghan. Then why shouldn’t Jim Carey have his chance at the reputed insane antagonist of Batman?

The chaotic persona Carrey brings to the screen, add to that the same amount of intelligence to destroy Batman. Carrey’s Joker could be very similar to his 1994 film The Mask. Wearing a similar tuxedo and with face paint, Jim Carrey’s Joker would be a refreshing touch to the legendary villain.

1. Another Attempt at Riddler?

In case you don’t know, Jim Carrey has already portrayed Riddler in Batman Forever. The 1995 film also stars Val Kilmer as Batman, with Tommy Lee Jones as Harvey Dent, and other great actors, including Nicole Kidman.

It would be interesting to see Riddler being brought back to the screen by a multiversal theory. In a similar way, we welcomed Michael Keaton and George Clooney as Batmen in The Flash.
