The price of the Steam Machine has been kept under wraps; however, it appears that the price was leaked by mistake. While it is supposed to arrive in early 2026, a Czech retailer named Smarty.cz, put out a preliminary listing for the product under the hood.
The pricing hasn’t been revealed to the public, but on checking the website’s source code, the pricing can be seen without a cover. Unfortunately, it seems that the portable PC will likely cost around $1,000 at launch. These numbers aren’t official, so it’s best to take them with a grain of salt.

The Steam Machine shook the gaming world with its introduction, but the price was kept hidden. Back in November 2025, it was expected that the gaming device could cost around $700, by comparing the specs to consumer-available parts.
However, the pricing was anticipated before the boom in DRAM prices, and new leaks suggest a $1000 mark. For the 512 GB variant of the device, it’s expected to cost $950, while the 2TB variant would cost $1070. But that’s the price suggested through Smarty.cz website source code.
The suggested price certainly looks steep, compared to popular consoles likethe Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. Which might become a problem for Valve, because many saw it as a console killer.
Leaked Pricing May Be Due to Inflation or Third-Party Costs

The $1000 pricing for the Steam Machine might be due to DRAM demand. Selling the portable PC at a loss would be problematic for Valve, because apart from parts, there are research and development costs as well.
On a side note, high pricing could be a result of it being sold through a third-party store. Some retailers do sell imported goods at a higher price to maintain their business. Combined with the added inflation due to memory shortage, the price could have spiked.
Another possibility could be that the price given on the Smarty.cz website’s source code is a placeholder. The retailer may have put down an expected price as a proxy and replace it with officially revealed pricing.
Moreover, the pricing could also increase in the future due to additional pressure on the memory market. It is best to wait for Valve to drop the official pricing for the device after unveiling it. But don’t expect Valve to subsidize the price.
