The director for the upcoming Lilo & Stitch 2 movie has finally been confirmed. I’m convinced that Disney’s latest creative decision shows that the live-action sequel is heading in the right direction. This could also guarantee the movie’s theatrical success when it debuts on May 26, 2028.
Why Lilo & Stitch 2 would be better than the first 2025 movie?
Now that original Lilo & Stitch director Chris Sanders’ involvement in the live-action sequel has been announced, it’s safe to say that fans can feel assured that the movie won’t make the same mistakes as the first installment. With Sanders returning to direct and write Lilo & Stitch 2, it’s encouraging to know that the sequel’s development is in the hands of someone who really knows what’s best for the franchise.
One of the main criticisms against the 2025 movie involved creative changes made to the source material. I believe that the studio has made the right call bringing Sanders into the creative process. Sanders was only involved in the first installment as a cast member, lending his voice to Stitch, which he has been doing since the original animated movies. His involvement is definitely an exciting development for the sequel, especially when his most recent directorial feature, The Wild Robot, was both a commercial and critical success in 2024. This proves that he’s the perfect person to take over the project, even though it has been over two decades since he directed the beloved Lilo & Stitch animated movie.
Overall, I’m convinced that Sanders directing and writing Lilo & Stitch 2 will guarantee that the sequel delivers the authenticity and emotional depth that fans loved from the original animated movies. Because of his long history with the franchise, I couldn’t think of a better candidate who would have a deeper understanding of the beloved characters and what “Ohana” truly means to their story.
