Andy and Barbara Muschietti discuss It: Welcome to Derry’s future seasons
Speaking with IndieWire, co-creators and directors of It: Welcome To Derry, Andy and Barbara, discussed how the series has progressed with its plot in Season 1. They also talked about what other themes could be explored in future seasons.
The Muschiettis emphasized what they would like to focus on. Andy said while Season 1 was about “the weaponization of fear”, future installments will focus on “the weaponization of faith” and “the weaponization of love.”
Barbara added, “We are living in a world where the weaponization of fear is something that has to be fought daily… If we are not aware, and if we don’t fight it, we will succumb like Derry.”

Last month, during Deadline’s Contenders TV panel, Andy talked about Season 2 and mentioned that it will be set in 1935, focusing on the Bradley Gang storyline. “It’s 1935, we’re now working on it, and it’s so much fun,” he said. “For the ones of you who read the books, probably the Bradley Gang sounds familiar. The Bradley Gang was a gang of bank robbers that, not accidentally, but they were on their way somewhere, and they stopped in Derry to buy some ammo and something horrible happens,” he added.
Interestingly, he also teased the third season, saying, “There’s like three big events in Welcome to Derry Season 1, and Season 3 would be the explosion of the Kitchener Iron Works, which is a big explosion during an Easter egg hunt where a hundred kids lost their lives.”
It: Welcome to Derry Season 1 was released last year in October on HBO. The show features Bill Skarsgård alongside Clara Stack, Amanda Christine, Matilda Lawler, and Taylour Paige, among others.
