After several months of casting rumors, Amazon MGM Studios has finally announced the official start of its long-awaited casting search for the next James Bond actor, confirming that auditions for the part are already underway. This comes five years after Daniel Craig delivered his final performance as the iconic 007 agent in No Time to Die.
Who’s involved in Amazon MGM Studios’ James Bond casting process?
According to Variety, the studio has enlisted acclaimed casting director Nina Gold to help them find the right actor who will become the next face of the James Bond franchise. Gold is best known for assembling the star-studded casts for popular shows like Game of Thrones and The Crown. Last year, she received her first Academy Award nomination for her work on 2025’s Hamnet movie.
“The search for the next James Bond is underway,” Amazon MGM Studios said in a statement. “While we don’t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we’re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right.”
Before Gold, the long-running franchise originally turned to casting director Debbie McWilliams, who was the one behind the casting of Craig, Pierce Brosnan, and Timothy Dalton. Since the studio acquired the James Bond series, the internet has been filled with many casting speculations about the potential actor who’ll succeed Craig. Jacob Elordi, Callum Turner, Tom Holland, Harris Dickinson, Louis Partridge, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson were said to be among the studio’s rumored picks.
The next James Bond movie will be directed by Dune filmmaker Denis Villeneuve, with Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight writing the screenplay. The studio is expected to make a final casting decision sometime in 2026 since production will reportedly begin in 2027, just in time for its rumored November 2028 theatrical release.
In a previous interview, Knight revealed what James Bond fans can expect from the next 007 movie, teasing a “better, stronger, and bolder” story that’s different from past iterations.
“It has always been on my bucket list, and it’s fantastic to be invited to do it — I can’t wait to get started,” Knight teased. “I’m hoping that, being a Bond fan for so many years, it will be imbued into me and I will be able to produce something that’s the same but different, and better, stronger, and bolder.”
