A popular Daredevil villain believes his version in the MCU is better than the comics. Wilson Bethel, who played Bullseye in Daredevil: Born Again, explained why they created a human and layered version of his character.
Wilson Bethel admits comics version of Bullseye is ‘thin’
Wilson Bethel portrayed Bullseye, who is an iconic villain in Marvel comics. After Kingpin, he’s the most recognized arch-nemesis of Daredevil. Before his MCU debut, Bullseye was first introduced in Season 3 of Netflix‘s Daredevil series.
According to Bethel, his version of Bullseye surpasses the one from comics. Speaking to The Direct, he said Bullseye in the comics “is a thin character.” Giving an explanation, he added, “It’s a character who we would not necessarily want to watch for four seasons of a TV show.”
From the actor’s perspective, his version brought a lot of humanity to the villain. He wanted to play a character “who feels human” and someone “I can access.” In the comics, Bullseye is shown to be a sadistic character with little emotion. In the MCU show, however, Bethel tried to bring elements of remorse and regret to the character’s overall personality.
Moreover, Bethel also talked about who he would want Bullseye to face in the MCU going forward. “A few of the tops for me would be, like, I think a Bullseye-Punisher face off would be absolutely f*****g bananas. And just like, brutal.”
Bringing up more names, he added, “I think Spider-Man would be really fun just knowing their different skill sets. I think that would be a really fun one to see on screen. And then, sort of like a no-brainer, would be Hawkeye.”
It will be interesting to see how Bullseye’s arc progresses when Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 arrives next year in March on Disney+. In the Season 2 finale, he was on a flight with Mr. Charles, seemingly suggesting his new alliance.
