Spread the love

As we prepare for a chill and relaxing weekend, streamers are loading a mix of true crime, horror, thrillers, and indie dramas on their platforms for viewers to indulge in. Strategic release dates are important to create a clean slate of movies and shows, set for binge watchers who are looking for their next watch during the weekends.

From Netflix’s latest documentary deep-dive to the streaming debut of one of the biggest horror hits of recent years, this week’s lineup is as diverse as it gets. Here’s a look at the biggest new movies arriving on streaming this Friday (May 15, 2026) and why they deserve a spot on your watchlist.

1. The Crash – Netflix

If you need a stimulating tale of crime and thrill, then Netflix’s latest true crime documentary will certainly scratch your itch. The Crash is a feature-length documentary centered on the 2022 Ohio crash with teenager Mackenzie Shirilla at the center of it all. Directed by Gareth Johnson, the film dives deeper into the fatal incident that led to Shirilla facing multiple felony charges as prosecutors argued the crash was intentional.

The documentary explores the surrounding the investigation, courtroom arguments, and the complicated relationships between the people involved as Shirilla was eventually convicted for the accident. The film dissects the evolution from a tragic accident into a highly controversial criminal case.

The Crash is one of the most compelling releases this Friday because of its focus on psychological motives and media narratives surrounding the case.

2. Lurker – HBO Max

First premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and eventually released across theatres last year, Lurker is an interesting psychological thriller. The film has generated attention for its eerie atmosphere and indie filmmaking style.

The movie leans heavily into paranoia and suspense, as retail employee Matthew gets closer to a music star in the making. What he discovers upon proximity to the musician begins to unravel a thread of hidden secrets. HBO Max has recently expanded its lineup of darker independent thrillers, and Lurker aligns with the genre to attract viewers who enjoy slow-burn tension and unsettling storytelling.

3. Zodiac Killer Project – AMC+

AMC+ adds an unconventional entry to the true-crime genre this week with Zodiac Killer Project, directed by Charlie Shackleton. Rather than a straightforward investigation into the infamous Zodiac murders, the documentary examines the cultural obsession with true-crime storytelling itself, as the murders have become the focus of attention of numerous films and shows. Given the fact that the murderer has never been caught, the case seems even more elusive and intriguing.

The film premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the NEXT Innovator Award, and critics have praised its experimental structure and self-aware approach. Zodiac Killer Project deconstructs the intricacies of modern true-crime documentaries and questions why audiences remain fascinated by unsolved murders decades later.

Viewers looking for something more cerebral than a standard crime documentary to spark vivid conversations would love to binge this movie on AMC+.

4. Bride of the Year – Netflix

Netflix is also debuting the romantic comedy Bride of the Year, directed by Joshua Ross. As the name suggests, the movie revolves around the bride-to-be and the chaos that swirls around the same. Wedding chaos, complicated relationships, and competitive bridal drama, combined with romantic-comedy staples, make for a modern streaming flick.

Starring Carine Rous, Bouwer Bosch, and Armand Aucamp, the story follows Lienkie’s quest to win the Bride of the Year title as her life crumbles all around her. Her dream of starting a family is nowhere near being fulfilled, and her love life is not progressing as well as she would like.

Fans of wedding-themed comedies and easy weekend viewing may find this title a fun and stress-free watch for the week.

5. Saw X – Prime Video

Horror fans finally get the streaming arrival of Saw X on Prime Video. Directed by Kevin Greutert, the film marked a major return to form for the long-running horror franchise, awakening the fans from a slumber.

Set between the events of the first two films, Saw X follows John Kramer, better known as Jigsaw, as he travels to Mexico for an experimental medical procedure that turns out to be a scam. When he finally realizes it’s all a lie, Kramer decides to take justice in his own hands and sets brutal traps for those responsible.

The film earned strong reviews, with critics praising Tobin Bell’s performance and its signature gore-heavy set pieces. For longtime horror fans, this Prime Video debut is definitely one to stream.
