“Gudo is a Soul Keeper, a spirit who guides human souls into their next life,” the synopsis reads. “When he befriends a young girl named Yuri, he discovers that her untimely death has left her cursed with unresolved rage and regret.”
It continues, “As Yuri’s soul teeters on the edge of annihilation, Gudo embarks on a dangerous journey to stop her from unleashing horrible destruction on both the human world and the spirit realm.”
Tommy Ng Kai Chung helmed the feature, marking his directorial debut. Polly Yeung Po Man wrote and also produced the film alongside veteran movie producer Chan Gin Kai. Previously, it had been released as a 14-minute short film in 2019. Its critical acclaim across international film festivals led to its rebirth as a full-length film.
The feature-length film was later selected for the prestigious Annecy International Animation Film Festival in 2025. This marked the first time in twenty years that an animated movie from Hong Kong made it to the event after My Life as McDull in 2003.
