For better or worse, the Isekai subgenre has long dominated the modern anime landscape. Whether it’s action fantasy or slice-of-life adventures, Isekai has dipped its toes into every genre in the medium. However, the one that has proven to be consistently entertaining is the Comedy Isekai.

But don’t get your hopes too high. Many Isekai try to be funny but instead fall flat on their faces, and the humor doesn’t land at all. That said, when it hits, it hits hard. Therefore, we’ve saved you the trouble and listed the 10 best Comedy Isekai anime. So, let’s find out which caters to your taste the most.

10. How Not To Summon A Demon Lord

A gamer getting reincarnated in a fantasy world as a hero may not sound all that special by today’s Isekai standards. But what if he doesn’t become the hero, but the Demon Lord? And to make things more interesting, the MC, Takuma, had originally been a socially awkward boy in our real world.

Therefore, the moment he gets Isekaid into the game world as Diablo the Demon Lord, he must maintain a facade. He must act as the confident and fearless leader others think of him as. And his subordinates, Rem and Shera, further add to the anime’s comedic appeal with many absurd scenarios.

9. Combatants Will Be Dispatched

When an Isekai is trashy but is pretty self-aware about it and fully commits to it, then the show becomes an instant banger. That’s why, Combatants Will Be Dispatched! deserves a spot on the list. What might surprise you is that it’s written by the author of Konosuba, which makes more sense.

Compared to many generic Isekai heroes, the protagonist in this anime, Agent Six, is quite the odd one out. He’s selfish, perverted, and makes constant bad decisions. But that’s also where his powers originate from. Why? In an interesting twist, he receives energy points whenever he does something immoral!

8. Reborn As a Vending Machine, I Now Wander The Dungeon

Now, let’s make things a bit more absurd by introducing you to our next protagonist, who is a Japanese vending machine! Yes, that’s right. If the previous anime took its absurdity seriously, then the vending machine Isekai takes it to another level. It’s comically serious with its title.

The main character is not a guy who looks like a vending machine; he literally is one. Although he can observe and understand everything, he can’t speak. Sounds real enough, right? That’s exactly where the comedic brilliance shines in the anime, putting a ridiculous premise in a serious world.

7. The Devil Is a Part-Timer

Here comes our first Reverse Isekai on the list, and it might be the best one the genre has to offer. Conceptually, the premise itself makes The Devil Is a Part-Timer! extremely hilarious. Like, what do you mean a Demon King, Maou, has been reincarnated into our real world and now works at a fast food shop?

His learning the ropes in our real world is not funny. Now pair it up with his general Ashiya, who had also been reincarnated along with Maou, and it adds to the comedic instances. And guess what? Even the Hero Yusa joins them and is forced to interact with them.

6. Konosuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World!

The MC, the premise, the supporting characters, and even the NPC-like characters, everyone in Konosuba amplifies the story’s humor one way or another. Kazuma isn’t the ideal Isekai hero, but he can often be a relatable, helpless individual who’s busy surviving, let alone doing something heroic.

And the world around him is constantly putting him in situations where he is at his worst and forcing him to deal with individuals he doesn’t want to. Along with him, the three other party members, Aqua, Megumin, and Darkness, have their own comedic quirks, acting as a parody of the Isekai genre.

5. From Bureaucrat to Villainess: Dad’s Been Reincarnated!

When a boomer gets Isekaied to another world and meets some otherworldly zoomers, it’s bound to be funny. The idea alone of having a government office worker, a middle-aged dad, reincarnating in a fantasy world makes it a must-watch. But the plot goes deeper with insane comedic nuances.

How so? Not only does he get Isekaied, but he also gets Isekaied as a rich, dramatic noble girl. The contrasting switch in his personality will surely make you laugh out loud. On top of that, the character writing in this one is particularly intriguing, making every joke hit harder than the others.

4. Uncle from Another World

Uncle from Another World, or popularly known as Isekai Ojisan, is a modern masterpiece when it comes to comedy Isekai anime. It even has a spin on its premise not seen in many other Isekai. First of all, similar to the previous one, the MC is a middle-aged man who gets reincarnated in another world.

However, after his Isekai adventures are over, he returns to the real world! Yes, this makes things a whole lot more interesting. His outdated personality after returning and his failure to grasp the difference between reality and fantasy create so many comedic instances that are hard to resist.

3. My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!

Now it’s time for one of the classic Otome Isekai. What does it mean? It’s the kind of Isekai where the MC is a female, and she gets reincarnated into the fantasy world of her favorite otome game (girl’s game). Well, that may sound like its target audience would be all female, but don’t make that mistake.

My Next Life as a Villainess in itself is a masterclass Isekai, with comedy pouring out from every scene. The MC, Katarina, is one of the most likable characters in all of Isekai, and her dense personality makes it even more fun. The best thing about her, though, is her internal strategy meetings!

2. The Eminence in Shadow

Do you know what “aura” is? The Eminence in Shadow’s protagonist, Cid Kagenou, is the definition of that word. But don’t assume that it’s just another power fantasy Isekai with an overpowered MC. It’s rather the opposite, because Cid’s power is only for show here. Not sure how?

If you’re familiar with other Isekai anime, then it becomes even more enjoyable. After all, it acts as a fine parody of the genre. Because Cid assumes he’s just roleplaying as an overpowered MC, but others in the world think it’s real. This makes all his intentional aura-farming extremely fun to watch.

1. The Hero Is Overpowered but Overly Cautious

Finally, the award for the funniest Isekai anime goes to Cautious Hero. The dynamic between the MC, Seiya, and his goddess Ristarte is peak comedy that you cannot find anywhere in the genre. The MC here, sure, is overpowered, but his stoic personality is what makes things hilarious.

And yes, Ristarte is the star of this show. Her way of approaching Seiya to convince him to work as a proper reincarnated hero breaks the subjective aspect of the comedy genre. Therefore, although it has only one season, it’s rated highly on every platform. So this is your cue to watch Cautious Hero.

While there are many Isekai anime that incorporate comedy into their stories, not many manage to pull it off right. However, the above-listed 10 anime are the best you can find. So if you’re looking for something that can have you rolling with laughter but with an Isekai spin, then do give them a try.

Or if you have already seen them and have your own recommendations, then feel free to share them.
