With the weekend right around the corner, many of you anime fans already have plans on what to watch or start a new series on Saturday and Sunday. However, we know that many of you are also frazzled to pick from the thousands of titles the world of anime has to offer, and this is where we come in.

Following our weekly series of recommendations, here are Fandomwire’s picks for the five best anime titles you can watch this weekend (April 25-26). From Isekai hidden gems like A Wild Last Boss Appeared! to classic continuations like JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run, here’s our picks for this weekend.

1. A Wild Last Boss Appeared!

For all the Isekai anime fans out there, A Wild Last Boss Appeared! is one of the most underrated hidden gems from 2025. If you are a fan of dark fantasy-themed series with an operpowered MC, this is probably the best title we can offer to watch this weekend. The anime is an adaptation of the novel, light novel, and manga series written by Firehead.

A player is transported into his heavily modified MMO character, Lufas Maphaahl, 200 years after her staged defeat. , 200 years after her staged defeat. Reborn as Lufas, he explores the fantasy world that has changed drastically, reuniting with former NPC subordinates while acting as an overpowered, misunderstood “villain”.

Where to Watch: Crunchyroll.

2. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners

Just like the name suggests, the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime series is edgy, action-packed, and adventurous in a far dystopian future worldbuilding. Narratively, the story is somewhat complex, yet it has that wow factor that can easily lure you in. Furthermore, it looks visually stunning, not something you often see in a regular anime series.

The story follows David Martinez, an impulsive but talented street kid, who, after losing everything he has in a shooting, chooses to survive on the wrong side of the law as an Edgerunner. The series is considered one of the most highly acclaimed titles on Netflix, and for good reasons.

Where to Watch: Netflix.

3. Ascendance of a Bookworm

Another Isekai anime series that flies under the radar, Ascendance of a Bookworm, returned very recently with its Season 4. Unlike A Wild Last Boss Appeared!, which is completely packed with action and fights, Ascendance of a Bookworm has a laid-back narrative approach to the fantasy world.

The story follows Urano Motosu, a book-loving post-secondary college student and soon-to-be librarian who ends up crushed to death beneath a pile of books. Reincarnated, she finds herself in the body of a weak, five-year-old girl named Myne in a world where books are scarce and only available to elites.

Where to Watch: Crunchyroll.

4. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run

Whether you are a long-term fan of the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure franchise or a new okatu who just got into it, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run can be watched both as a fresh series and a continuation. Steel Ball Run is the sixth season of the series by David Production and covers the massive horse race across the United States of America.

With the recent release of the season, the anime narrative is fresh: merging modern-day animation with the iconic character design and art style. This one is definitely one to watch this weekend, relaxed on the hot summer couch of your living room.

Where to Watch: Netflix.

5. Nippon Sangoku

If you are up for some post-apocalyptic drama with an immersive storyline, the brand new Nippon Sangoku anime series is the perfect choice this weekend. With just a couple of episodes released so far, the story is still fresh and in the initial stages, so it’s very easy to catch up before the next episode arrives.

The anime series portrays Japan in a post-apocalyptic, technologically regressed state, and is split into three warring states. Aoteru Misumi, a scholarly agriculturalist, sets out to reunite the fractured nation using strategy and eloquence. The anime has a very distinct, washed-out animation style that makes it more iconic and dramatic.

Where to Watch: Amazon Prime Video.
