The newly released Clayface teaser trailer has a couple of big Easter eggs that DCU fans might have missed.

DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures’ Clayface will be released in United States theaters later this year. Co-written by Mike Flanagan, the film is directed by James Watkins and will see Tom Rhys Harries play the titular Batman villain.

The synopsis reads, “Clayface unravels one man’s horrifying descent from rising Hollywood star to revenge-filled monster in a story that explores the loss of one’s identity and humanity, corrosive love, and the dark underbelly of scientific ambition.”

What Easter eggs are in the Clayface trailer?

Perhaps the biggest, blink-and-you’ll-miss-it Easter egg in the Clayface teaser trailer is the nod to Gotham City’s Amusement Mile. A sign for the amusement park is merely seen in one quick shot, but it’s definitely there.

Amusement Mile is an iconic DC location that is oftentimes inhabited by the Joker. That’s not to say Joker will definitely show up in Clayface — there’s a chance Amusement Mile might actually be open, given the neon sign is working and everything, in Clayface, while it’s typically abandoned in the comics and other media.

It does, however, mean we’ll actually be exploring Gotham City instead of just using the setting as a random city. Another quick shot shows Gotham’s The Narrows, a location that was first introduced in Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins and then made its way into the comics. This can offer DC fans some relief, as James Gunn has previously said that Clayface wasn’t a movie they initially intended to make; rather, Gunn liked Flanagan’s pitch so much that they went forward with it and put it in the DCU. That might give some concerns that Clayface won’t have much to do with the greater DCU and will just be a unique solo outing, but the specific nods to Gotham City lore do, in fact, suggest that this’ll very intentionally be an in-universe film that’ll have implications in future projects to come.

Additionally, we also see the shadow of Clayface’s iconic spiked mace attack, meaning the movie is looking to have some fun with the lore about this specific character. It’ll be horrific, gory, and goopy, of course, but Clayface looks like it’ll be a bloody good time at the movies.

Clayface arrives on October 23, 2026.
