A brand new Star Wars spin-off TV show is reportedly in the works, and if it’s anything like the last project, it could be a spin-off of one of the franchise’s most underrated shows.
What Star Wars TV show could be getting a spin-off?
According to a new report from insider Daniel Richtman, Disney is looking to produce a new 2D, anime-style Star Wars series. The insider didn’t mention much else, so it’s unclear exactly what the project is, but given the description of the series as a 2D, anime-influenced show, it sounds like it could be a spin-off to Star Wars: Visions.
Originally premiering in 2021, Star Wars: Visions is a series of short films set in or inspired by the Star Wars universe, each with their own self-contained narrative. In 2025, a spin-off of a short film in Visions, The Ninth Jedi, was released. This spin-ff, titled The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope, was made by Japan-based animation studio Production I.G, who made the original.
The short film was a hit, and will be continued in the upcoming limited series Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi, which will once again come from Production I.G. Due to the success of The Ninth Jedi and the overall growth in popularity of anime projects, it seems like the world of Star Wars is looking for a new style to introduce itself to audiences.
Currently, it remains unclear whether or not the series is inspired by Visions, or an entirely new creation.
