The upcoming X-Men movie, which is set to officially bring a new era of the iconic group into the MCU, has gotten some major casting rumors, one of which involves who might play Rogue. Should these rumors come true, it might be the perfect choice for one of the most recognizable X-Men.
What is the latest casting rumor for MCU’s Rogue?
This week, insider Jeff Sneider noted that Marty Supreme star Odessa A’Zion is being eyed for the role of Rogue in the upcoming movie. Rogue is a cornerstone of X-Men lore, celebrated for her complex powers, such as the ability to absorb memories and abilities through touch, and her relationship with Gambit. While the casting news is not official by any means, A’Zion would make a perfect choice for Rogue for several reasons.
First and foremost, A’Zion’s looks match the part. When the rumor began circulating, fans were quick to joke that there would have to be little hair changing to be done. A’Zion currently sports some large and curly hair, which has been a staple of Rogue’s looks for some time in the comics. A’Zion’s history as an actress also suggests that she has more than enough in the talent department to portray the character.
While she had been working for some time prior to her role in Marty Supreme, her role opposite Timothée Chalamet earned her massive praise, and nominations for an Actor Award and British Academy Film Award. Comic fans are notoriously fickle about who is cast in any live-action adaptation, but A’Zion already looking the part and being an accomplished and praised actress should alleviate much of the concern. However, there’s one other big reason why A’Zion’s potential inclusion, as well as the other rumored star for the movie, would be perfect.
Alongside A’Zion, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Peter Claffey was said to have been eyed by Marvel to play the role of Beast in the upcoming movie. Both stars inclusions seem to indicate one major factor of the upcoming X-Men movie, in that the movie is going to include a much younger group of mutants then we’ve seen in past movies. While Fox’s era of X-Men portrayed some characters (including Rogue) as younger, the cast of the team largely featured older characters, with Wolverine, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Storm, and more all being much older by the time we see them.
With the upcoming new MCU entry, it seems like Marvel Studios is rebooting things entirely. With actors like A’Zion and Claffey being eyed for roles, it seems like the new movie will show off a different side of the group then we’ve seen previously. Rather than being an established group, fans may get to watch the crew grow together not only in their own movies, but throughout the new era of the MCU.
