Frieren Season 2 Episode 10 Review: The Golden Land Arc Tease Was Phenomenal

As if the entire episode wasn’t already good, the Golden Land tease at the very end took the Frieren Season 2 finale to a whole new level. Now wait, I’ll surely get into that. But before that, I must address everything else that came before it.

Since not a single episode of this anime has been bad, I’m on the verge of running out of words to praise it every single time. Season 2, Episode 10 was no different from almost the entirety of the show. It had the classic Frieren storytelling from start to finish. Now, let me tell you how.

The Adventure in the Northern Plateau Continues

It’s already been a while since Frieren, Fern, and Stark entered the Northern Plateau. And just like every other side quest they find themselves in, this episode was no exception. First was the case of that dwarf named Gehen. His reason to build that bridge was truly inspiring.

But what struck me the most was how beautifully it once again showed the passage of time. Within 200 years, Gehen had built a village on his own near the bridge he was making. Isn’t that so beautiful? It made me wonder if this is how history must have been forged in real life.

Then came another ‘slaying request’. Not demons this time, thankfully, but it was an almost equally powerful monster. It looked like a wolf, which reminded me of Boreas. Anyway, seeing Frieren, Fern, and Stark struggle to defeat it sure was fascinating. But this time, their experience from the previous Divine Revolte arc came in clutch.

Thus, they successfully slayed the monster and went on to experience the scenic morning view. We also got another flashback of Himmel, which always feels so magical. The Norm Company coming in to help was also another nice touch. All in all, it was great so far.

Is Frieren Turning into the Next Himmel?

Now guess what? Out of everything the episode showed before the credits rolled, there was this very particular scene that I found the most fascinating. It was the moment when Fern comments on Frieren, saying, “Because that’s what Ms. Frieren would do.”

We’ve been hearing this about Himmel since the very start of the show. But now, it feels like times are changing. As Frieren follows in Himmel’s footsteps, people are beginning to see her as someone to look up to as well, even though our silly old Frieren isn’t aware of any of that.

That being said, there was also a small segment in the episode that shed light on all the side characters we’ve seen this season, showing how they are growing/prospering under the influence of Frieren, Fern, and Stark’s actions. And oh boy, wasn’t that so emotional?

How the Episode Ending Masterfully Teases Season 3

All that I said above already made the episode a solid finale. But who could’ve guessed the anime had an even bigger surprise for us after the credits rolled? As if I wasn’t already hyped based on the rumors, but now, after watching the tease for the Golden Land arc, I just can’t wait.

Denken’s introduction in this finale was straight-up phenomenal. And then we even got a better look at Macht of the Golden Land, the last and strongest remaining member of the Seven Sages of Destruction in the Demon King’s army. Although Season 3 is now officially confirmed, the anticipation will feel insanely long and brutal. I can tell!

Frieren Season 2 Final Episode: Final Verdict

Before anything, the greatest thing this episode did was switch to a completely new song for the ending theme. I was taken aback, and it sounded as magical as a Milet song would. This shows how much passion has been put into this project.

Huge respect to Studio Madhouse. They are not dropping the series midway, and just as fans want, it seems they will see it through to the end. The visuals, soundtrack, direction, and all further solidified that idea. So yeah, there couldn’t have been a better finale for Season 2.

Both seasons 1 and 2 of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End are currently available to watch on Crunchyroll.
