“I have directed security chiefs to move to Maiduguri” — Tinubu reacts to Maiduguri suicide bombing

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the recent attacks in Maiduguri, describing the incident as heartbreaking and unacceptable.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the President mourned those who lost their lives and extended his sympathy to the injured.

He also assured residents of Borno State of the federal government’s support during what he described as a difficult time.

He said, “The recent news from Maiduguri, Borno State, is profoundly upsetting. I mourn those who lost their lives, sympathise with the injured and stand in solidarity with the people of Borno during this challenging time.”

Terrorists Acting Out of Desperation

President Tinubu stated that the attacks were signs of desperation by criminal and terrorist groups facing pressure from Nigerian security forces.

According to him, “I want to make it categorically clear that these acts of terror are the final desperate and frantic attempts by criminals and terrorist elements trying to instil and spread fear, as they are under constant pressure from our brave armed forces and security agencies.”

He reassured Nigerians that efforts to tackle insecurity would be intensified across the country.

Troops Praised for Repelling Attacks

The President commended the courage of Nigerian troops who reportedly repelled coordinated assaults on military positions in the state.

I must commend the courage and fighting spirit of our patriotic troops who successfully repelled the coordinated attacks by these terrorists on military positions in the state,” he said.

He described the incidents as desperate actions by extremist groups and expressed confidence in the ability of security forces and civilian task groups to contain the threat.

New Security Measures Approved

Tinubu revealed that new security measures were already underway following a recent meeting with top security and intelligence officials.

“Just last weekend, during a security meeting with leaders of security and intelligence agencies, I approved additional equipment and operational support to enhance their capabilities. This effort is already in progress,” he added.

The President also directed security chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri to oversee operations, while emergency agencies have been instructed to provide adequate care for the injured.

“Nigeria Will Not Succumb to Fear”

Reaffirming his administration’s stance, Tinubu declared that no part of the country would be safe for terrorist groups.

There is no place in Nigeria where terrorists will find safety. We will locate them, confront them, and completely defeat them. Nigeria will not succumb to fear,” he stated.

The statement comes amid renewed concerns over security in the North-East, as authorities continue efforts to restore peace and stability in the region.
