The upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter movie has received an awesome update.

Star Wars: Starfighter is an upcoming Star Wars movie that is being directed by Shawn Levy. Scheduled to arrive in United States theaters next year from Disney and Lucasfilm, the film stars Ryan Gosling, Flynn Gray, Matt Smith, and more.

What is the Star Wars: Starfighter update?

Per Variety, while there is some internal concern at Disney regarding how 2026’s The Mandalorian and Grogu will do at the box office and how it will be received by fans, that doesn’t appear to be the case with Starfighter, at least at this time.

The article states, “There’s a sense that Star Wars: Starfighter, a spinoff from Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy, is more likely to satisfy fans when it hits theaters next spring, with sources who have seen footage praising Ryan Gosling’s performance and suggesting Levy has recaptured the franchise’s spirit of fun.”

Not much is known about the plot of Levy’s movie at this time, other than that it will be set after the events of 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Production on the project began last year.

In addition to Gosling, Gray, and Smith, the cast includes Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Amy Adams, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, and Daniel Ings.

Levy said when filming began, via The Hollywood Reporter, “I feel a profound sense of excitement and honor as we begin production on Star Wars: Starfighter. From the day Kathy Kennedy called me up, inviting me to develop an original adventure in this incredible Star Wars galaxy, this experience has been a dream come true, creatively and personally. Star Wars shaped my sense of what story can do, how characters and cinematic moments can live with us forever. To join this storytelling galaxy with such brilliant collaborators onscreen and off, is the thrill of a lifetime.”

Star Wars: Starfighter arrives on May 28, 2027.
