Spoiler Alert !!!This article contains spoilers for Demon Slayer Manga.
Demon Slayer is a story that is known for its tragic backgrounds and deaths, but some deaths stand out among the rest. It is widely accepted that the Flame Hashira, Rengoku Kyojuro, had the most impactful death in Demon Slayer. However, there is a discourse among manga fans that there is a death even more tragic.

However, since that part of the story hasn’t been animated yet, not all fans know of it. The character in question is Muichiro Tokito, the Mist Hashira, who was considered a prodigy among other Hashiras and had the blood of none other than the Upper Moon One.
How Did Muichiro Tokito Die in Demon Slayer?
After Muzan found out the location of the headquarters of Demon Slayers, almost everyone was pulled into the infinity castle, which included all the Hashiras. Naturally, multiple teams were formed among the demon slayers to tackle the upper moons present there.
Muichiro Tokito encountered the Upper Moon One, who was also none other than his own ancestor, along with Wind Hashira Sanemi Shinazugawa, Stone Hashira Gyomei Himejima, and Genya. It took no time before the fight broke out, where the four put all their efforts to kill the Upper Moon, Kokushibo.
The combined efforts of all four did manage to kill Kokushibo; however, the cost was Muichiro’s own life, along with Genya’s as well. The damage that Muichiro took during the intense battle was already slowly killing him, and it did not take long before he too died after ending the life of Kokushibo.
Why Muichiro Tokito’s Death is The Saddest in Demon Slayer

Muichiro and his twin brother both lost their parents at the age of no older than eleven. Both living in poverty, cutting trees to earn food, and the weight of grief after their parents, had a childhood more tragic than any other Hashira. It didn’t take long for a demon to come and hunt them for food, and that led to the death of Yuichiro.
Having lost his brother as well, Muichiro became apathetic, suppressed the memories of his brother, and became the youngest Hashira in mere three years. And then, Muzan pulled him into the Infinity Castle. As the Reddit User mentioned in a post, for someone who was just 14 and lost so much so early in life, Muichiro did not have to go through the painful death he went through.
Unlike others who lived the life of passion and inspiration, such as Rengoku, Muichiro died with only the memories of his family he didn’t get to spend much time with, and whose death he couldn’t even grieve properly. Some comments also pointed out how his death is the worst because of an important distinction: he was just a human child.
